Build Your Cushion

A custom cushion is not a product you pick — it is a shape you describe. Tell us the outline, the numbers that define it, and where it lives: the same factory cuts indoor sofa pads, outdoor deep-seat sets, round ottomans and notched radiator covers, all to the same written tolerance. No size charts, no “closest match,” no compromise padding.

The customizer above walks the whole job in four steps — shape, measurements, fabric, review. Every field takes decimals to the quarter inch, the estimate updates as you type, and nothing is cut until you confirm the numbers with us. Made to order in 7–14 business days — roughly half the wait of typical US custom shops.

Eleven shapes cover most of what we cut — rectangles through wedges, each with its own measurement fields, all on the same per-square-foot formula so shape never adds a fee. Something odder? Trace the old cushion on paper, photograph it next to a tape measure, and email it to us — “any shape” is the job, not an exception.

The 11 Shapes We Cut

Every custom cushion starts with one of these shapes. Pick yours to jump back into the customizer above — or read on to find the one your seat has been waiting for.

Rectangle / Square

The classic cut for benches, window seats, dining chairs and daybeds. Give width, depth and thickness — optional rounded corners — and it arrives cut to the inch. Start this shape →

Chaise (Hinged)

One-piece chaise lounge pads that fold exactly where your frame hinges. You give the seat depth, back height and hinge position; we cut the bend to match. Start this shape →

L-Shape / Corner

Sectional corner seats, L-shaped banquettes and corner window benches. Measure both arms along the outside and the notch is calculated automatically. Start this shape →

T-Cushion

The seat pads that wrap around American club-chair and sofa arms. Give the between-arms width, arm wrap and front overhang — the “ears” are cut to your chair. Start this shape →

Bowed Front

Curved-front cushions for curved sectionals, gliders and fan sofas. You measure the straight chord and the bow height; we draw the arc through it. Start this shape →

Notched (Left / Right)

A rectangular cushion with one corner cut away — the go-to for clearing trim, radiators, posts and pipes. Pick the left or right side on the measurements step; width and depth of the notch are all we need. Start this shape →

Round

Round ottomans, stool pads and tree-bench segments. One number — the diameter, measured across the widest point. Start this shape →

Oval

Oval window seats, rocker seats and ottomans. Two axes: the longest run and the widest point across it. Start this shape →

Half-Round

Flat back, curved front — window-seat ends, wall niches and half-round benches. The flat edge runs along the wall; the curve faces the room. Start this shape →

Wedge / Tapered

Front and back edges of different widths — bay-window corners at 30°, 45° or 60°, angled banquettes and fan-back chairs. Start this shape →

How to Measure a Custom Cushion

Measuring for custom cushions — dimensions taken edge to edge for an exact factory cut
  • Measure the cushion, not the frame — if you have the old pad, lay it flat and go edge to edge; if not, measure the deck or slot the new one will live in.
  • Three numbers do most jobs: width, depth, thickness. T-cushion ears and notched outlines get sketched on paper with the dimensions labeled — the notch is a dimension, not a detail.
  • Every field takes decimals to the quarter inch (23.5 or 23 1/2 both work). Measure twice, order once.
  • Order matched sets as one run — pieces cut from one dye lot match; fabric ordered later will not.

Fabric by Where the Cushion Lives

The same cut comes in two fabric families. Indoors wants soft weaves — cotton linens and classic textures that breathe against bare arms. Outdoors wants solution-dyed acrylic, the fiber family behind Sunbrella-class fabrics, where the color is in the fiber so it resists UV fading for years.

Between them sits Tech Fabric — a wipe-clean, waterproof surface that belongs anywhere a drink gets spilled. All 119 fabrics live in one library with macro close-ups in the customizer, and free swatches ship with every quote: pick by hand, not by thumbnail. The full fabric guide compares every tier side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Pick your shape from the 11 we cut, type your measurements in inches (decimals like 23.5 or fractions like 23 1/2 both work), choose a fabric — filter the menu by indoor or outdoor use — and a foam density, and the tool calculates a factory-direct estimate instantly — with a live dimension drawing of your exact cushion you can email to yourself or add straight to your order bag.

Quotes are estimates based on your measurements. We re-verify every dimension before cutting and will contact you if anything looks off — nothing is cut until your numbers are confirmed. The finished piece is then held to a written tolerance: within ½ inch of your confirmed dimensions (¾ inch on runs over 36 inches), or we remake it free.

Custom cushions are made to order in 7–14 business days, plus shipping — typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks, so the mill-direct route is roughly half the wait. Straightforward rectangles run toward the fast end; hinged chaises, notched pieces and large sectionals take the full window. Rush production (4–7 business days) is available on request.

Check it against your confirmation email. Within our published tolerance (± ½ in., ± ¾ in. on longer runs) is hand-sewn reality; outside it, we remake the piece free — that is the written standard, not a negotiation. Full table on the Shipping & Returns page.

Three years on workmanship (residential; 1 year commercial) — seams, sewing, fill — from our workshop. Covers close with a sewn envelope closure (no zippers); spot clean per the fabric care sheet. Fabric fade performance follows the tier you choose; we tell you honestly when a cheaper tier is enough for your sun exposure.

Because most of them are thin pads, not cushions. Mass-market outdoor pads typically run 1.5–2.5 inches of low-density fill that flattens in one to two seasons; every cushion we cut starts at 35-density foam and runs to 65-density for heavy daily seating — the foam alone carries two to three times the material of a boxed pad. Cheaper pads are a real choice for covered, occasional use; they are just not the same product. And buying direct means your exact numbers get checked twice against a database of 195+ verified sizes — no marketplace listing does that.
