Build Your Church Pew Cushion
Church pews were built by local woodshops a century at a time, which is why no two sanctuaries — and often no two pews in the same sanctuary — take the same cushion. The seat widths wander, the end caps curve differently, and the supply side is thin: a handful of fabricators, quote-only pricing, and long lead times counted in months.
We cut pew cushions pew by pew from your measurements — long runs up to 15 feet, 2–3 inch foam in the traditional profile, end caps matched to your sketches — and the whole order ships as one matched run so every pew in the sanctuary gets the same dye lot. One pew or eighty: the formula below prices the first one, and the rest are arithmetic.

Pricing — estimated starting at
| Fabric tier | Estimated price* |
|---|---|
| Cotton Linen | $264 |
| Tech Fabric | $264 |
| Premium Velvet | $264 |
*One 6-ft pew run (72 × 16 × 3 in.): $45 make-base + 8.0 sq ft × rate ($27.37 per sq ft, 3" 50D foam + fabric, all fabrics one price). Longer runs and kneeler pads price on their own area at the same formula; whole-sanctuary orders are the sum of their pieces — one run, one dye lot.

For comparison: the few U.S. fabricators serving churches run quote-only pricing with lead times counted in months — numbers appear after a phone call and a site visit. We publish the formula above so a committee can check the math before anyone makes a call.
Popular Church Pew Sizes We Cut
| Piece | Typical size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pew seat run | 6–15 ft L × 14–17 D × 2–3" | Long continuous pieces; every pew measured separately |
| Seat thickness | 2–3" | The traditional low profile; 3 for longer services |
| End caps | Radius or square, cut to match | Curved pew ends are outline pieces — sketch the radius |
| Kneeler pads | 6-ft sections, 2" | Often overlooked in the first order; price on their own area |
| Back pads | Rare — most pews run seat-only | Add only if your pews actually have upholstered backs |
Typical pew cushion sizes (typical, always measure — every pew):
Yours differs? That’s the point — we cut to your numbers.
How to Measure a Church Pew Cushion
- Measure every pew, not one — sanctuaries built or reworked over decades routinely vary an inch or two pew to pew; a single "standard pew" order is the classic sanctuary-wide remake trigger.
- Length of the seat board between the end caps, and depth front to back over the boards, to the nearest quarter inch; note which pews read differently.
- Trace or sketch the end-cap curve if the pew ends are radius-cut — a square-cut cushion on a curved end cap overhangs on one side and gaps on the other.
- Note the seat-board layout before ordering — the gaps between boards and the end-cap shape both change where the seams land.

Durable Fabric, Honest Answers

Three fabric tiers cover most projects: breathable cotton linen for covered spots, tech fabric for weather, premium velvet for indoor polish. One thing we say plainly: if your denomination or insurer requires documented commercial flammability specifications, tell us before ordering — we will confirm in writing what we can and cannot certify rather than surprise a committee after the deposit. General fabric logic is in the fabric guide.
Pews We Build For
- The straight pew run — 6–15 ft seat runs at the traditional 2–3 inch low profile, every pew measured separately because sanctuaries vary an inch or two pew to pew.
- Radius end caps — curved pew ends are outline pieces: sketch the radius with the rest of the outline — a square-cut pad overhangs one side and gaps the other.
- The whole sanctuary — eighty pews or eight, each its own line item from your pew-by-pew list (a spreadsheet is fine), all shipping as one matched dye lot.
- Kneeler pads — 6-ft sections at 2 inches, the piece first orders forget; priced on their own area at the same formula.

Frequently asked questions
Do you sell standard church pew cushion sizes?
Yes — standard sizes too, in 3 clicks, where a standard exists: pew seats run 14–17 inches deep at 2–3 thick, and lengths are simply the seat board — type each pew’s numbers into the customizer for the same instant factory-direct quote. But pews vary pew to pew, which is why the answer to sizing is measuring, not a chart.
How do I measure pews for cushions?
Every pew separately: seat length between end caps, depth over the boards, thickness (2–3 inches), plus a sketch of any radius end cap. Sanctuaries routinely vary pew to pew by an inch or two — the one-pew first order is the remake trigger.
Can you supply a whole sanctuary at once?
Yes — the order ships as one matched run with one dye lot across every pew, priced as the sum of its pieces at the same published formula. Send the pew-by-pew list (a spreadsheet is fine) and each pew goes in as its own line item.
How thick should pew cushions be?
2–3 inches: 2 is the traditional low profile that keeps the kneeler-to-seat geometry; 3 for longer services and older congregations. Thicker starts to change the posture the pew was carved for.
Do you make kneeler pads too?
Yes — typically 6-foot sections at 2 inches, priced on their own area at the same formula, in the same fabric run as the pews. They are the piece most often forgotten in the first order and added in the second.
What if a pew measurement turns out wrong?
Contact us with photos and the measurements you confirmed, so we can review the build against your numbers. If the mistake is ours — outside the ±½″ tolerance, wrong fabric, wrong build — the cushion is remade free, any time. If the confirmed number was simply off, the cushion was cut right; we’ll help you re-measure so the replacement fits the first time.
How long does a pew cushion order take?
Made to order in 4–7 business days — straightforward pieces run 7–10 — and rush production is 3–5 business days for a surcharge. Production is separate from delivery (3–6 weeks door to door); typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks for the same build.
Is a Pew Cushion Right for You?
- Sanctuary work needs the certification talk first. If your insurer or inspector requires documented commercial flammability specifications, say so before ordering — we confirm in writing what we can and cannot certify rather than surprise a committee after the deposit.
- Old sanctuaries drift pew by pew. Pews built a century apart by different crews rarely share one length — the 12th pew from the wall can differ from the 2nd by half an inch, so each run gets its own tape measurement, not the first pew’s number times twelve.
- The cover unzips — wash it, or spot clean in place. The cover unzips — a full wash or spot cleaning in place, both in the care plan. A cut-to-size cover machine-washed harshly can shrink past its own tolerances, which is why these zippered builds spec a gentle cycle and air-dry.
- Custom-cut means non-returnable. Custom-cut means non-returnable. A cushion cut to your numbers fits exactly one frame on earth — tolerances are published in writing (±½″, ±¾″ over 36″), and anything outside them against your confirmed numbers is remade free, whenever the error is found.
