What This End Up Actually Is — Cedar Crate Furniture

This End Up is the American crate-furniture company: squared cedar frames, bolted together like shipping crates and finished like heirloom pieces — sold for living rooms, screen porches, dorms and vacation homes. The wood frame outlives everything on it, which is why the cushions, not the frame, are what you are replacing.

The company still sells replacement cushions direct (a Classic sofa set lists at $480; the full official reference sits in the table below). What a custom mill adds is everything the catalog doesn’t do: single pieces without buying a full set, non-catalog measurements for rebuilt or re-foamed frames, 119 fabrics at one flat rate, and foam grades you pick by density. Nothing here is cut until your numbers are confirmed.

Transcribed as published on thisendup.com replacement-cushion product pages (checked September 2026; SKUs listed so you can cross-check yourself). Sofa and loveseat sets share identical seat and back blocks — the frame, not the cushion, sets the piece count. Treat every figure as a reference to measure against: your tape measure is the number we cut to.

Pricing — estimated starting at

Fabric tierEstimated price*
Cotton Linen$200
Tech Fabric$200
Premium Velvet$200

*One Classic seat block (24 × 29 × 6 in., 4.8 sq ft): $45 make-base + 4.8 sq ft × rate ($31.99 per sq ft, 6″ 50D foam + any of the 119 fabrics — fabric prices flat) ≈ $200. In 65D the same block runs ≈ $221; the configurator figures your exact numbers live.

Sets are per-block multiples — a Classic sofa is three seat blocks plus three back blocks, a loveseat two-and-two. The official set prices in the table above give you the comparison point before you build.

Where Your Set Lives — Two Different Specs

Indoor living piecesPorch and vacation-home pieces
Typical failureFoam compression — dished seats, flattened bench padsFabric fade and damp summers before the foam gives out
Universal-pad fitPoor — 24 × 29 seats and 5½″ backs are nobody’s stock sizePoor — 37″ and 55″ bench runs are odd lengths in the pad market
Replacement spec45–60D foam cores; backs rebuilt with real loftSolution-dyed acrylic covers; 50D-plus foam for humid seasons

Crate frames end up in both places. Identify where yours lives before ordering — the fill and fabric specs are different jobs, and the comparison table maps the two.

Measure Your Piece — Three Numbers, One Photo

Measuring a crate-style seat cushion edge to edge with a tape measure
    n
  • Width first, frame over foam — inside edge to inside edge of the cedar frame where the cushion sits. Measure the frame whenever the frame is bare; measure the old cushion only when it is not.
  • n
  • Depth front to back — the published Classic seat runs 24″ wide × 29″ deep; if your tape says otherwise, your tape wins and we cut to it.
  • n
  • Thickness at the seam — measure the old cushion’s side, not its domed top. The order forms take increments to ⅛″; record to the nearest quarter inch.
  • n
  • One photo, straight-on — with the three numbers it settles every question the order desk would otherwise call you about.
  • n

Fabric Options — 119 Fabrics, One Flat Rate

Every fabric on the list prices the same, so the choice is touch and duty, not markup. Cotton Linen is a natural breathable weave for indoor rooms; Tech Fabric is waterproof and wipe-clean, the pragmatic pick for porch sets and kids; Premium Velvet resists pilling and cat claws. For full weather exposure, the solution-dyed acrylic (Sunbrella-class) line is the outdoor standard — fade-stable and quiet under rain.

This End Up Pieces We Cut For

    n
  • Sofa cushions — three 29 × 24 × 6 seats and three 29 × 15 × 6 backs per published sizing, cut in one production run so every block matches.
  • n
  • Loveseat cushions — the same blocks, two seats and two backs.
  • n
  • Chair cushions — 24 × 29 × 6 seat with a 24 × 15 × 5½ back; arm cushions (23 × 12½) ordered separately, exactly like the official set.
  • n
  • Bench cushions — the 37 × 14 and 55 × 14 published sizes, and any length past them; single-piece long runs are routine cuts here.
  • n
  • Ottoman cushions — Classic 29 × 15 × 6; Woods End 25 × 18½ × 8.
  • n
  • Dining and study chair pads — 20 × 17½ × 2¼ seats. Note the official dining backs bolt on with four screws — if yours is the screw-on kind, send a photo and we cut to the old pad board.
  • n
  • Overnighter and daybed pieces — arm pairs and seat pads cut to your numbers where no published size exists.
  • n
  • Cushion covers, decided — the maker publishes no cover-only SKU; the re-cover vs rebuild call is walked through in our This End Up cushion covers guide.

What This End Up actually sells (and what a mill adds)

The official channel is alive: thisendup.com lists replacement cushions and covers across the Classic, Woods End, Artisan and Cottage lines, with full sets from $320 to $734. If you want the exact original in the exact original fabric, that route exists. What it can’t do is the single lost seat block, the rebuilt frame that no longer matches a chart, a density the catalog doesn’t publish, or a fabric outside its card — those orders come to a workshop that cuts to measurements.

One distinction worth knowing before either route: This End Up also sells replacement covers. Covers re-dress sound foam; replacement cushions renew the foam itself. Seats that have gone soft need cushions, not covers — the deeper comparison is in our cushion covers vs full replacement guide.

Frequently asked questions

Three numbers and a photo. Width inside the frame, depth front to back, thickness at the seam edge — the frame, not the old cushion, whenever the wood is bare. The published Classic seat is 24″ × 29″ × 6″; if your tape disagrees, your tape is what we cut to. Record to the nearest quarter inch; the order forms take eighths.

Yes — Classic, Woods End and every line they ever charted, plus the pieces they never published. Published sizes are our reference; unpublished pieces are routine: your three measurements, one photo, and the block is cut. We are an independent workshop, not affiliated with This End Up Furniture Company.

Test the foam, not the fabric. Press the seat flat and count: if it rebounds instantly and holds its edges, a cover is the cheaper fix. If it stays dished or the edges have gone soft, the foam is done and a cover is money on a dead core. Our cushions come sewn closed — spot cleaning, no zippers to fail.

As published: Classic seats 24″ × 29″ × 6″, sofa and loveseat backs 29″ × 15″ × 6″, chair backs 24″ × 15″ × 5½″, ottomans 29 × 15 × 6, benches 37 × 14 and 55 × 14. The full SKU-by-SKU table sits higher up this page — and your own measurements outrank all of it.

From a $45 make-base plus area at per-sq-ft rates: a Classic seat block (24 × 29 × 6, 50D foam) estimates at $200, and the official full sofa set lists at $480 — a useful comparison point before you build. Every fabric prices flat, so fabric choice never moves the number.

Made to order in 4–7 business days (3–5 rush when the season is biting), then shipping in 3-6 weeks, roughly half the wait typical US custom shops quote — and straight rectangles like these seat blocks run toward the fast end of the window.

Made and shipped by the same hands

This End Up seat blocks estimate from $200 (24 × 29 × 6 in., 50D) — four steps to a quote.
