Custom Seat Cushions, Cut to Your Exact Inches

Custom seat cushions are made-to-order pads cut to your chair’s exact measurements — width, depth and thickness in half-inch steps — instead of one-size retail sizes. Every CushionMill seat cushion is cut in our own factory from 11 shape templates and 119 fabrics, from $89, with a free remake on any cutting error and delivery in 4–7 days.

Indoor Seat Cushions

Indoor seating is where sizing goes wrong most often — dining chairs shrink half an inch per rail, banquettes run corner to corner, and window seats are never the standard square the big-box aisles assume. An indoor custom seat cushion is cut to the numbers you type, in a high-resilience foam you pick by density, and wrapped in an interior fabric from the same 119-swatch library the rest of the house uses.

Start from the seat type: dining chair cushions for 16–20 inch squares and full sets, or banquette cushions for corner benches that need seat and back in one order. The full indoor family — kitchen nooks, window seats, desk chairs — is mapped on the indoor cushions hub.

Daily-duty seats earn their foam. For a chair that takes breakfast, homework and long dinners every day, 60D foam is the density we recommend for seat decks — it holds its edge for years of sitting, while a lighter 50D is usually enough for the matching back. Desk chairs follow the same logic; the office chair foam guide walks the density ladder by hours-per-day.

Outdoor Seat Cushions

Outdoor seats live in weather, so an outdoor custom seat cushion changes two things: the foam goes into the quick-dry, open-cell family, and the cover draws from the weatherproof pool of the fabric library. The cutting logic does not change — still your inches, your shape, your thickness, held to the same written tolerance as every pad we ship.

Patio sets start at the patio replacement cushions page, and attribute-first buyers — any chair, any brand, just the numbers — land on custom outdoor seat cushions. The whole weatherproof range is collected on the outdoor cushions hub.

Two outdoor cases need a closer look before you order: deep seating decks four inches and thicker want a density step-up so the front edge survives daily lounging, and wicker frames curve — measure the frame, not the old pad flattened over it, or start from the wicker seat cushions page where the curved patterns live.

Seat Cushions by Chair Type

Each chair type with real build logic has its own measured page — pick your seat:

Seat Cushions for the Whole Set

Most seat cushions ship in sets, not singles. Four, six or eight dining chairs price as quantity — each pad quoted on its own square inches, every one cut from the same fabric bolt so the set matches. Mixed runs are normal here: a bench against the wall, two carvers with arms, a banquette corner — one order, one shipment, one tolerance. Sets also clear the $158 free-shipping line as a single cart, which is usually where a full dining set lands on its own.

Eleven Shapes, One Cutting Table

A seat is rarely a plain square. We cut eleven shapes on the same table — rectangle and square, round, oval, half-round, T-cushion, L-shape and corner, bowed front, notched (left or right), wedge and tapered, and one-piece hinged chaise. Four of the most requested shapes have their own measured pages: rectangle, round, curved and bowed and T-cushion. Everything else starts in the shape picker.

Measure Once — the Numbers We Cut To

Three numbers, one tape measure: width at the widest point of the seat frame, depth from the front edge to the seat back, and thickness — measured flat from an old pad, or built up from the deck to your preferred sitting height. Type them exactly as you measure them: we cut exactly the numbers you enter, with no sewing allowance added on our side.

One exception is yours to make: on a recessed or framed seat, take about a quarter inch off each side yourself so the pad drops in without puckering. Deep seats past four inches thick should step up a density grade so the edge keeps its shape under daily load.

Why Order Seat Cushions From the Mill

Factory-direct, one price layer. Your seat cushion is cut and sewn in the factory that ships it — no retail markup tier between the cutting table and your door.

A fit guarantee that never expires. Every pad ships against a written tolerance — within half an inch (three-quarters over 36 inches). If we cut outside it, the remake is free, any time you discover it. That is a factory standard, not a warranty window.

Fast, fixed production. Standard production runs 4–7 business days and rush production 3–5, on every shape on this page. All 119 fabrics price the same — choosing a fabric moves the look, never the quote. Orders over $158 ship free; below that a flat $29. Workmanship is backed by a 3-year warranty (1 year commercial).

Seat Cushion FAQs

Seats price on your exact square inches — a flat base per pad plus foam rate by density and fabric by area. A 16×16×2 inch seat in 35D foam starts at $89; a 17×17×3 in 50D runs about $100. Because all 119 fabrics price the same, the quote only moves with size, thickness and density — the live estimate in the customizer is the factory number.

Eleven: rectangle, square, round, oval, half-round, T-cushion, L-shape/corner, bowed front, notched left or right, wedge/tapered, and hinged chaise. Any of them can be a seat — the shape changes the cut sheet, not the price logic or the 4–7 day production clock.

The words overlap, and shops use them loosely. In ours, a seat pad is the thinner piece — one to two inches, seasonal refreshes, lighter duty — while a seat cushion is the structural deck you sit on every day. We cut both on the same line: pick your thickness from one to eight inches and the same tolerance, fabric pool and remake standard apply.

Measure the seat, not the old pad: width at the frame’s widest, depth from front edge to back rail, thickness flat or as deck-to-target sit-height. Enter the numbers as measured — nothing is added for seams. On framed seats, trim a quarter inch per side yourself so the pad seats cleanly.

If the miss is ours — a dimension outside the written tolerance, the wrong fabric, the wrong shape — we remake it free or refund in full, with no time limit on discovering it. If the miss is a measuring slip, the numbers can usually be re-cut at a reduced remake price, so it never pays to guess an inch.

Yes — one order carries dining squares in interior fabric, patio seats in the weatherproof pool and a bench run across both, each pad quoted on its own area and foam. Sets for four, six or eight chairs price as quantity, and the whole order clears the $158 free-shipping line together.
