Build Your Sofa Cushion
A sofa is the most-sat-upon object in the house, and its cushions are consumables wearing upholstery clothes: the frame will hold for fifteen years while the foam dishes in five. Couch owners meet the same wall at the same point — the series was discontinued, the brand sells a new sofa instead of parts, and the stock aisle sells rectangles that fit nobody’s T-cushion arms.
Custom made sofa cushions start here: we cut to your measurements — seat blocks, fiber backs, notched T-cushion seats, loveseat to three-seat — in 45–60D foam for daily family duty, one production run for the whole set so every block gets the same loft and fabric lot. Discontinued is our home turf: a workshop that cuts to dimensions instead of model numbers can rebuild every cushion your frame has.

Pricing — estimated starting at
| Fabric tier | Estimated price* |
|---|---|
| Cotton Linen | $168 |
| Tech Fabric | $168 |
| Premium Velvet | $168 |
*One sofa seat (24 × 24 × 5 in.): $45 make-base + 4.0 sq ft × rate ($30.79 per sq ft, 5" 50D foam + fabric). Loveseats and three-seat sofas are per-block multiples; back cushions price on their own area.

For comparison: U.S. custom-configurator specialists’ 2026 listings run made-to-order cushions well above formula price once configured — and most only reveal that number after a quote request. No hidden markups: each part of the estimate maps to a size you can verify with a tape measure.
Popular Sofa Sizes We Cut
| Piece | Typical size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Loveseat (2 seats) | 2 blocks of 20–23 W × 21–24 D × 4.5–5.5" | Sometimes one joined 44–48" block instead |
| Standard sofa (3 seats) | 3 blocks of 20–25 W × 21–25 D × 4.5–5.5" | Count blocks before measuring — makers vary |
| T-cushion seats | Seat extends forward under the arms | The notch is the dimension people miss |
| Back cushions | Match seat W × 18–22 H | Usually fiber-filled; counted separately from foam seats |
| Seat thickness | 4.5–5.5" | Match the original — thicker changes seat height |
Yours differs? That’s the point — we cut to your numbers.
How to Measure a Sofa Cushion

Full walkthrough with photos: our measuring guide.
Foam Density, Then Fabric

A couch is the hardest-working seat in the house, so the fill is the real decision: 45D for guest rooms, 50–60D for daily family use — lighter grades dish within a couple of years of nightly use, a comparison unpacked in our high density foam guide. Fabric comes in three tiers — cotton linen as the value pick, tech fabric for outdoor duty, premium velvet where softness leads. And before ordering full cushions, check which layer actually died — covers, inserts and full cushions are three different jobs, compared in our covers guide. If only the cores died, couch foam cushions is the cores-only lane.
Sofas We Build For
- The standard three-seat couch — three matched blocks cut to the same dimensions in one run, so adjacent seams meet and the loft reads level front to back. Count the blocks before measuring; makers vary.
- The T-cushion frame — seats that extend forward under the arms go in as notched outline pieces, the notch sketched and labeled like the dimension it is. See how to measure a T-cushion sofa.
- The discontinued sofa — the frame the brand stopped stocking pads for. Dimensions in, blocks out, in the fabric you pick; IKEA series like KIVIK and POÄNG have measured replacement pages of their own; the parts department is a tape measure now.
- The sagging couch — when the foam dishes but the covers live, the answer may be new cores rather than new cushions — the foam replacement guide walks the decision.

The Full Replacement Job List
Every search that lands here is the same purchase wearing different words — sofa cushion replacement, couch cushion replacement, replacing a couch cushion, new cushions for a sofa — and every one of them ends at the same tape measure. The list we rebuild weekly: sofa seat cushions replacement runs block by block; sectional cushion replacement adds its corner and chaise pieces; armchair cushions replacement prices as a single-block order; replacement suite cushions (the British word for the same set) run the whole order in one dye lot. Seating cushions for sofa and couch frames are one lane here, whatever order the words come in.
Replaceable is the frame’s promise, not the brand’s. When makers say a couch is “replaceable,” they mean you buy their next sofa; when we say replaceable sofa cushions, we mean new blocks cut to the same frame tomorrow and again in five years. Replacement sofa pads and sofa seat pads price on the same published formula — nothing about the word “replacement” changes the math, and no job is too small to run: a changing-cushions refresh of one tired seat ships on the same terms as a full rebuild.
Backs get their own line on the order: sofa back cushions and couch backrest cushions are usually fiber-filled and lose loft years before seat foam dies, so sofa back replacement cushions ordered to the frame — not to the flattened old pad — are half of what we ship. Replacement pillows for sofa frames and decorative cushions for sofa sets are the same job under other names: tall lofted back pads, sized like the originals. And “couch cushions for sale” is not a season here — the price is the formula on this page, every day of the year.
Covers, Inserts, or New Cushions — Pick Your Lane
The couch cushion world splits into three purchases that only look alike: replacement covers, foam inserts, and complete new cushions. Pick the wrong lane and you pay for work you don’t need. Our covers guide runs the full comparison; the short version follows.
Covers on their own — custom couch cushion covers, sofa cushion covers replacement, replacing couch cushion covers — we do not sell. Every cover we sew is tailored to its core with a zippered closure, which is what keeps a cushion’s shape and tolerances honest; a slip-over cover for a worn pad is a different product with a different problem, which is that it hides foam that has already died. If the covers failed and the cores are sound, a local upholsterer re-covering your existing pads is the honest call.
Inserts are the middle lane and often the right one: sofa cushion inserts, replacement sofa cushion inserts, cushion inserts for couch frames — when the covers are sound, foam-only cores cut to the cover’s interior restore the seat at foam rates, the cores-only lane. The same search arrives as couch stuffing, sofa cushions filler or couch padding for cushions — the fill is the product, whatever word you use for it. Firm couch cushions are a density decision (45D soft, 50–60D firm); down couch cushions we do not build — foam is the fill we can promise, and we won’t sell the promise of down.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order standard sofa cushion sizes?
Yes — standard sizes too, in 3 clicks: seat blocks cluster around 22–24 wide by 22–24 deep — the 24 × 24 square is a common fit — and typing the numbers into the customizer gets the same instant factory-direct quote. Count blocks and sketch T-cushion arms; that is where sofas actually vary.
How much do replacement couch cushions cost?
From $45 make-base plus area at per-sq-ft rates — a typical 24 × 24 × 5 seat block runs about $168, so a three-seat couch with backs lands in the mid hundreds: a fraction of re-upholstery or a new sofa.
What foam density should sofa cushions be?
45D for guest-room duty; 50–60D for the couch the family actually lives on — density is the spec that buys years, and the front edge of the seat is where cheap foam fails first. For the grade-by-grade breakdown, see how to choose foam density.
Can I get replacement cushions for a discontinued sofa?
Yes — that is the normal case, not the exception: indoor lines retire every few years, and a workshop that cuts to measurements instead of model numbers can rebuild every seat and back your frame has.
Can I fix sagging couch cushions instead of replacing them?
Sometimes — rotating and flipping buys months, and refluffing fiber backs can work — but compressed foam does not rebound; when a seat stays dished after fluffing, new foam is the fix, not more fluffing.
Can I replace the foam in my sofa cushions instead of ordering new ones?
Yes — sofa cushion replacement has two lanes, and the refill is the cheaper one: when the covers are sound, foam-only cores cut to the cover’s interior restore the seat at foam rates instead of full-cushion rates. Two-seat frames get their own refill-vs-rebuild lane on the settee cushions page — same math, smaller piece count.
How long does a custom sofa cushion take?
Your order starts the clock at the cutting table: production runs 4–7 business days, with rush production at 3–5 business days for a surcharge. Delivery is 3–6 weeks door to door. Typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks for the same build, and we ship direct from our own workshop.
How do I clean and care for the fabric?
Wipes handle the daily work — and every cover unzips for machine washing when a full clean is due. Tech Fabric is the easy one: a waterproof surface that wipes clean with a damp cloth. Cotton Linen spot-cleans, with a low-heat iron on the reverse if it creases. Velvet can be dry cleaned or gently hand washed, brushing the pile flat to dry; Chenille is spot clean only — never brush the tufts. See all fabric options in the configurator, and zoom the weave shots before you commit.
Do your cushions come with piping or welt cord?
Not as a standing option. Our sewing standard is clean, cord-free knife-edge seams — no decorative cord on any shape, any fabric. The flat profile wears evenly at the corners, cleans flat, and never traps debris along a raised seam.
What if my measurements turn out wrong?
Contact us with photos and the measurements you confirmed, so we can review the build against your numbers. If the mistake is ours — outside the ±½″ tolerance, wrong fabric, wrong build — the cushion is remade free, any time. If the confirmed number was simply off, the cushion was cut right; we’ll help you re-measure so the replacement fits the first time.
Can you make replacement cushions for a leather couch?
Yes — cushions for a leather couch are the same cut-and-sew job as any frame: leather suites take foam seat blocks and fiber back cushions like upholstered ones, and the measurements transfer unchanged. One honest note: matching new fabric to aged leather is a fabric-picker’s job — send a photo and we will say how close each tier reads against your leather.
Can I order just the back cushions, or a single seat block?
Both. Sofa back cushions and large back cushions for sofa frames order on their own area, sized to your back heights; single couch cushions — one seat block, one T-cushion, a loveseat one-cushion run — are the normal small order. Loveseats sometimes take one joined block instead of two, and that single wider cut prices the same way.
Do you sell couch cushion covers on their own?
No — covers are made as part of complete cushions on every build, so a cover-only product is not something we make. What looks like a covers problem is usually a fill problem: new covers over dead foam reproduce the sag. The covers guide compares the three lanes honestly.
Do you make down-filled couch cushions?
We don’t — foam-core builds are what our factory does well, and density (45D to 60D) is the comfort dial we can promise and stand behind. Down and feather blends are an upholsterer’s lane; if that is the feel you want, we would rather tell you now than ship you a compromise.
Decision guide: Replace your sofa cushions or buy a new sofa — the real cost breakdown (real customer numbers, all four paths priced).
Do you make cushions for sofa beds and sleeper sofas?
Yes — sofa bed and sleeper cushions are cut like any seat pads, with one extra number that matters: folded thickness. Measure the deck width and depth, then measure how much room the closed mechanism leaves — we hold the build inside that clearance so the frame still shuts.
Is a Sofa Cushion Right for You?
- Covers sound, foam flat: take the refill lane. Foam-only cores cut to the cover interior restore the seat at foam rates instead of full-cushion rates — paying for a complete sewn set when only the foam died buys work you already own.
- The brand not selling parts is normal, not a dead end. Discontinued frames are routine here — dimensions in, cushions out, T-cushion arms notched from your sketch; the name on the tag matters less than the tape measure in your hand.
- The cover unzips — wash it, or spot clean in place. The cover unzips — a full wash or spot cleaning in place, both in the care plan. A cut-to-size cover machine-washed harshly can shrink past its own tolerances, which is why these zippered builds spec a gentle cycle and air-dry.
- Custom-cut means non-returnable. Custom-cut means non-returnable. A cushion cut to your numbers fits exactly one frame on earth — tolerances are published in writing (±½″, ±¾″ over 36″), and anything outside them against your confirmed numbers is remade free, whenever the error is found.
