The EKTORP line at a glance
IKEA discontinued EKTORP in the US around 2024, ending one of the highest-volume sofa lines of the previous two decades. The official pages went dark – but EKTORP’s loose-cover construction meant a cover-maker aftermarket (Bemz, Soferia and peers) had patterned every piece to the original factory dimensions, and their spec tables survive the retirement. That is where this chart comes from: the full geometry of every EKTORP piece, still documented.
Covers only fix covers. When the foam dies, the replacement is a rebuild – new cores cut to the original seat geometry (aftermarket rebuilds run ~4-inch high-resilience foam for seats) plus covers, in any fabric. EKTORP is the best-documented discontinuation in furniture, which makes it the easiest retired line to rebuild.
Each field takes decimals to 0.25 in., and the price estimate moves with every keystroke. What we build every week: individual seats and backs, whole matched sets, split seat blocks, notched corners where trim interferes, and thickness from 2 through 8 inches — all priced by the same per-square-foot formula, with no shape premium.
Series mismatch, or a piece with no chart entry? Start from any shape → — we cut to what you measure.
Twelve pieces, one width ladder
Across its full production run EKTORP grew into a twelve-piece family, and width is what separates every member of it. The ladder reads: JENNYLUND armchair 30 3/4, TULLSTA armchair 31 1/2, EKTORP armchair 40 7/8, 2-seat sofa 70 1/2, 2-seat sofa bed 78, 3-seat sofa and 3-seat sofa bed both 85 3/4, corner sofa 2+2 at 95 3/4 square, and the 2-seat sofa with chaise at 99 1/4. Two cautions hide in that list: the 3-seat sofa and the 3-seat sofa bed share a width while the 2-seat versions do not, and the free-standing chaise is narrow (28 1/4) but deeper than any sofa at 64 1/4.
The family constant is seat depth: 22 7/8 inches, the number EKTORP is remembered by and the number its successor inherited. That constancy works in your favor, because depth and thickness measurements carry across pieces, and only width has to be established piece by piece. The footstool is the quiet bargain of the family: at 32 1/4 x 24 3/8 x 17 1/4 it takes roughly a quarter of the fabric of a sofa seat, refreshes the whole set visually, and is usually the piece guests actually put their feet on.
For a staged rebuild, order matters. Seats die first, backs second, the footstool last, so a budget that covers only part of the family should start there. Documented EKTORP seat rebuilds settle around four inches of high-resilience loft, which restores the sit the line had when new; ordering seats and backs in the same run keeps the foam and the fabric dye lot identical across the set, which matters on loose-cover furniture where every piece is seen side by side. And when a single piece is all you need, measure the width first and trust the 22 7/8 depth; width is the one dimension this family refuses to standardize.
Pricing — estimated starting at
| Piece | 35D Standard | 50D Firm | 65D Extra Firm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Armchair seat rebuild (~24 x 22 7/8 core) | $159 | $162 | $174 |
| Sofa 2-seat bench run (70 1/2 x 22 7/8) | $379 | $390 | $424 |
| Footstool (32 1/4 x 24 3/8) | $208 | $213 | $230 |
Pricing is an estimate — $45 make-base + area at per-sq-ft rates, built to order. The final quote is confirmed before any cutting happens. Every cover is a zippered, removable build.
As a yardstick: U.S. specialists running custom configurators priced made-to-order cushions for common sizes (16×16 through 24×24) around $71–$119 before shipping in 2026 — numbers most buyers only see after asking for a quote. We do the opposite: each line of the estimate maps to a size a tape measure can verify.

Sources are official IKEA records: live pages, archived values, or aftermarket spec tables that survived. All sizes in inches; metric-derived fractions such as 22 7/8 and 23 5/8 are expected — the cut follows the fraction, not the rounded number.
EKTORP seat blocks — width × depth × loft
| Piece | Official seat block W × D (in.) | Loft & density to order |
|---|---|---|
| Sofa, 3-seat | three ~24-in.-class blocks × 22 7/8 deep (deck runs the 85 3/4 in. frame width) | ~4 in. HR loft — 35D Standard daily use, 50D Firm heavy use |
| Sofa, 2-seat | one 70 1/2 × 22 7/8 bench run, or two ~24-in.-class blocks | ~4 in. HR loft — 35D Standard or 50D Firm |
| Armchair | ~24 × 22 7/8 seat core | ~4 in. HR loft — restores the 34 5/8 in. seat height the frame was built to |
| Footstool | 32 1/4 × 24 3/8 top pad | same ~4 in. loft reference; 17 1/4 in. seat height |
Every figure above is drawn from the official-record chart and the rebuild references on this page. The ~24-in.-class split for the 3-seat is the documented rebuild pattern, not a factory option — measure your deck seam to seam before ordering. Thickness runs 2–8 in. if your rebuild needs a different loft.
Measure before you order

Three minutes with a tape measure prevents the classic IKEA mistake — ordering rounded inch sizes for metric fractions. Measure seam to seam, every distinct block, to the nearest quarter inch per our measuring guide; your figures get checked against the chart above before anything is cut.
Fabric options
Fabric comes in three families — cotton linen for everyday duty, tech fabric for outdoor duty, premium velvet where softness leads — every fabric, one price. Indoor work gets 45–60D HR cores, with thickness picked to restore the seat height in the official specs.

Is your set really EKTORP?
EKTORP is easy to confirm: rounded arms, loose laundry-friendly covers, and usually a cover-maker’s label under the seat from a previous owner. Your frame label or order history resolves the piece; against this chart, width is the giveaway (2-seat 70 1/2 vs 3-seat 85 7/8 overall). Full method: our three-step measuring guide.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. The full EKTORP geometry survives via cover-maker spec tables (the chart above), and rebuilds – new foam plus covers – are quoted piece by piece, cut to those dimensions. Measure once, order any piece.
From the cover-maker aftermarket: EKTORP’s loose-cover construction meant brands like Bemz and Soferia patterned every piece to the factory’s original dimensions, and their spec tables outlived IKEA’s own product pages.
Not identical. UPPLAND inherited EKTORP’s design language and its 22 7/8-inch seat depth, but the frames and covers are their own. Check your piece against the EKTORP chart above and the The other common misread is SÖDERHAMN — its seats sit under 19 in. deep against EKTORP’s 22 7/8, a gap no cover stretches across; check the SÖDERHAMN replacement cushions chart if your frame measures shallow.UPPLAND replacement cushions chart before ordering.
Around 4 inches of loft – documented rebuilds run 10 cm high-resilience foam with a soft wrap. The overall frame height (34 5/8) is the check: choose thickness to restore the original seat height.
Lead time runs a 4-7 business-day make-and-ship window: 4–7 business days as standard, or 3–5 when you select rush production, plus shipping.
Wipes or washing — covers unzip and remove, so the machine is an option whenever a full wash is due. Tech Fabric is the no-fuss pick: waterproof, cleaned with a damp cloth. Cotton Linen is a spot-clean fabric that takes a low-heat iron on the reverse for creases. Velvet can go to the dry cleaner or into a gentle hand wash, pile brushed flat for drying; Chenille is spot clean only — the tufts are never brushed. The configurator holds all 119 fabrics with weave shots to enlarge first.
The 3-seat frame runs 85 3/4 × 34 5/8 × 34 5/8 in. overall with the series-wide 22 7/8 in. seat depth. The spec tables record frame width, not cushion width — subtract nothing by guesswork: measure the empty deck seam to seam (the 2-seat at 70 1/2 in. overall cuts to roughly two 24 in.-class blocks; the 3-seat to three). Fraction-exact numbers in, a period-correct rebuild out.
Yes — every piece in the chart is orderable individually. The footstool tops out at 32 1/4 × 24 3/8 in. with a 17 1/4 in. seat height; the free-standing chaise runs a 28 1/4 × 64 1/4 in. frame. Both carry the same ~4 in. seat loft reference as the sofas. One measurement session, however many pieces — order them in one run and the fabric lots match.
Usually not well. The EKTORP family constant is a 22 7/8-inch seat depth — a metric fraction that universal cushions, cut to rounded inch sizes, miss by an eighth here and an eighth there. The result is a pad that rides short of the front rail or pushes against the back. A block cut to the fraction, inside our ±½″ tolerance, is what restores the original sit.
A generic pad ships at whatever density keeps the price down; an EKTORP rebuild is cut to the documented ~4-inch high-resilience loft in the density you pick — 35D Standard, 50D Firm or 65D Extra Firm — with a zippered, washable cover in any of 119 fabrics. Same frame, different furniture.
No. IKEA retired EKTORP in the US around 2024 and does not sell replacement cushions for it — the official product pages are gone. The geometry survives through cover-maker spec tables, which is exactly what the charts above are built on.
