Measure the seat deck, not the frame rails and not the old cushion — width and depth to the nearest quarter inch; on tapered decks record front and back widths separately.
Match thickness to the seat type: 2.5–3 inches on dining chairs keeps knee height; 5–6 inches is the deep-seating lounging spec.
Note the tie points before ordering — slat gaps, weave gaps, frame bars — so ties land where your furniture can actually fasten them.
