The SÖDERHAMN line at a glance
SÖDERHAMN is IKEA’s modular low-profile line – buy sections, snap them together, sit low (15 3/4-inch seat height). Its fingerprint is the shallow seat: 18 7/8 inches of depth, where American standard cushions assume 21 to 22. That fraction is the whole replacement story – a standard universal pad overhangs a SÖDERHAMN seat visibly, bunches at the front edge, and looks wrong from across the room.
The line is built from repeated sections, which helps: one-seat sections, corners, chaises and armrests repeat their dimensions across configurations. Count your sections, match each to the chart, order the set in one run.
Every field accepts quarter-inch decimals, and the estimate rewrites itself as you type. Built here weekly: single seats and backs, full matched sets, split seat blocks for multi-seat frames, notched corners around trim, thickness from 2 to 8 inches — all on one per-square-foot formula, so shape adds nothing to the bill.
Series mismatch, or a piece with no chart entry? Start from any shape → — your numbers drive the cut.
The armrest is a cushion too — and the shallow-seat arithmetic cuts both ways
One part of SÖDERHAMN almost nobody remembers to replace is the armrest pad: a narrow blade, 32 1/4 long, 2 3/8 thick, 20 7/8 tall, sold as its own piece in the official system. It wears differently from seats, taking elbows in one spot and serving as the push-off handle every time someone rises from the low 15 3/4-inch seat. A rebuilt set with new seat cores and tired armrest blades reads as half-finished, and the fix is the cheapest order on the whole line, one narrow strip of foam per arm. Blades are the cheapest line item to add to any seat order.
The famous 18 7/8-inch seat depth cuts in both directions, and only one direction gets talked about. The obvious problem is that a standard universal pad overhangs the front edge. The subtler problem arrives when you rebuild thick: every inch of loft you add shortens your effective seat depth by roughly an inch, because your knees sit at the front edge and your back at the rear cushion, so on this line a generous rebuild can eat the depth down toward 17 inches. Depth-starved sitters slide forward, and the low frame turns into a slouch trap. A moderate thickness with a firmer grade buys comfort without spending the depth budget.
For the sleepers in the line the geometry flips entirely. The sofa-bed’s seat runs 84 1/4 wide by 36 5/8 deep, and the 4-seat version reaches 120 7/8, depths double the seating pieces, because those surfaces double as the mattress. Rebuilding those to seating specs would leave a bed with the depth of a bench. If your SÖDERHAMN sleeps guests, order the sleeper surfaces to their own chart rows, and let the armrest blades and seat sections follow the shallower standard. Shallow rule for sitting, deep rule for sleeping, one catalog, two geometries.

| Ottoman (36 5/8 x 36 5/8) | $323 | $332 | $360 |
Estimates shown — $45 make-base + area at per-sq-ft rates, cut to order. The final quote gets your sign-off before production. Each cover closes with a zipper and removes for washing.
As a yardstick: U.S. specialists running custom configurators priced made-to-order cushions for common sizes (16×16 through 24×24) around $71–$119 before shipping in 2026 — numbers most buyers only see after asking for a quote. We print the formula above so you can audit the arithmetic first.

Every figure traces to official IKEA product data (live pages, archived values, or surviving aftermarket spec tables). Inches apply; fractions with metric roots — 22 7/8, 23 5/8 — are standard — the fraction is what gets cut.
Measure before you order

Three minutes with a tape measure prevents the classic IKEA mistake — ordering rounded inch sizes for metric fractions. Measure seam to seam, every distinct block, to the nearest quarter inch per our measuring guide; your numbers are verified against the chart above before anything is cut.
Fabric options
Pick the fabric, the fit does not move: cotton linen daily, tech fabric waterproof and wipeable, premium velvet plush and cat-proof. For indoor rebuilds we use 45–60D high-resilience foam, cut thick enough to bring back the published seat height.

Is your set really SÖDERHAMN?
SÖDERHAMN’s low seat and shallow depth are the visual tells – and the measuring check is instant: seat depth under 19 inches is SÖDERHAMN territory in the current IKEA catalog. The frame label or order history confirms the section mix; count sections and match each to the chart before ordering. Full method: our three-step measuring guide.

Frequently asked questions
Seat depth. At 18 7/8 inches, SÖDERHAMN seats run 2-3 inches shallower than the 21-22 inch standard a universal cushion is cut for – the pad overhangs the front edge and bunches. Cut to the fraction, not the rounded inch.
Section by section: each 1-seat, corner, chaise and armrest is its own piece with its own dimensions in the chart. Count every distinct section type in your assembly, then order the whole set in one run so fabric lots match across the modules.
15 3/4 inches – the low-profile line of the IKEA range. Choose replacement foam thickness to restore that height; the shallow seat means less foam budget than a standard sofa, so density matters more.
Wipes cover most days — and every cover unzips for a full wash when one is due. Tech Fabric keeps care minimal: waterproof, damp-cloth clean. Cotton Linen spot-cleans, and a low-heat iron on the reverse smooths creases. Velvet takes dry cleaning or a soft hand wash, drying with the pile laid flat; Chenille is a spot-clean-only fabric and its tufts never meet a brush. Browse and enlarge all 119 fabrics in the configurator before committing.
Cutting and sewing start once the order is in — plan on a 4-7 business-day make-and-ship window: production typically runs 4–7 business days, with a 3–5 business-day rush option on most fabrics.
