How to measure a 24 x 26 cushion
- Table, flat cushion, tape measure: width goes edge to edge, depth runs front to back, thickness is taken at the seam — and the pad stays uncompressed.

Deep-seat depth: why 26 is the marker
Thickness and density at 24 x 26
A 24 x 26 seat is deep-seating geometry — the 26-inch depth is lounge depth, built for sitting back rather than sitting up. Five inches is the standard that makes that depth work; 5.5–6 buys the plush tier on premium frames. Below 4.5 inches, a pad this deep dishes where the sitter’s weight concentrates, and the front edge collapses first.
Density spans matter at lounge scale: 50D is the daily standard, 60D where the chair hosts naps, 65D for genuine mattress duty. Back cushions for these frames run their own loft (4–7 inches, often wedge-shaped) — order seats and backs in one run so loft and dye lot agree.
Depth is the dimension that separates the two postures of outdoor seating. Dining decks run 17–20 inches — upright, knees down, table close. Deep-seating decks run past 25 — and 26 is where the category starts in practice, deep enough that the frame does the ergonomic work and the sitter sinks. A 24 × 26 pad is therefore not a big dining cushion; it is a lounge cushion that happens to share its width with the 24-square family.
What the depth buys, and what it asks: twenty-six inches supports the thigh to the knee and lets the pelvis settle back — the lounging posture — but it asks the front rail to be where the frame put it. A pad deeper than the deck overhangs the rail and rides up under weight; shallower leaves a gap the back cushion cannot hide. Thickness picks at 24 x 26
Five inches is the deep-seating standard at this footprint — the depth assumes the loft, and the seat height was designed around both. Four suits firmer profiles and covered frames; six is the plush tier, worth checking against arm rails before committing. On chaise-back pads at this rectangle, loft runs its own ladder at 4–7 inches, often wedge-profiled — thicker at the bottom where the frame’s recline leaves the gap — so measure the old back at both ends rather than once.

The 24 x 25 to 24 x 26 band: staying inside the deep-seat family
Almost nothing in the chart above is exactly 24 × 26. The band runs Melbourne 24 × 25 and Middletown 24 × 25 × 5.5, up through Chateau at 24 × 25.5 — lounge chair at 24, sofa at 23.5 wide — with Cambridge’s chaise sofa the true 24 × 26. All of them stay on this page because depth 25 and up is one tier: the pad is cut to your measured number either way, and the price step from 24 x 24 ($168 in 50D) to here ($178) follows the depth, not the label.
Width is what moves a seat off this page. Pembrey and Charlottetown at 23 × 26 show up here and on the 22 x 26 chart ($167 in 50D there); a 23-inch width belongs there, a measured 24 belongs here, and the tolerance does not stretch across that inch. Below depth 24.5 the seat is not deep-seat at all — the 24 x 24 square page covers it at $168. Square decks run their own ladder — the 23 x 23 lounge square on up to the 30 x 30 daybed square.
One entry above is not a seat: the Spring Haven 23.5 × 26 piece is a back cushion, and backs run by their own logic — they can be deeper than the seat because the frame behind them is different. When you re-pad a whole chair, measure seat and back separately, and on the seat measure from the back cushion line to the front edge of the deck, not the outside of the frame; the difference between those two numbers is often a full inch.
