Woodard Replacement Cushions — Custom Cut, Any Series

Making furniture since 1866 — wrought iron since the family first hand-forged it, cast aluminum since the modern era. Cortland, Briarwood, Belden, and the Russell Woodard mid-century pieces collectors hunt: the metal outlives generations, the cushions never do. Replacements cut to your measurements, factory-direct.

What Woodard Actually Is — Since 1866, the Old Name in Outdoor

Woodard’s own story starts in 1866, when Lyman Woodard opened a shop in Owosso, Michigan — first in wood goods, and within a couple of generations in the material that made the name: the family developed some of the first hand-crafted wrought iron outdoor furniture in America. By the postwar years, under Russell Woodard, the company’s sculpted iron and spun-fiberglass designs had become mid-century icons that collectors still restore today. The modern catalog runs on two lines — cast aluminum (Cortland, Belden, Cayman Isle, Fremont, Andover, Terrace, Wiltshire) and wrought iron (Briarwood) — sold through a national dealer network.

A century and a half of frames is exactly why this page exists: a 1950s iron spring-base chair, a nineties cast-aluminum dining set and a current Cortland sectional all outlive their foam, and the dealer channel prices replacements accordingly. Half a dozen specialist shops compete in the SERPs for Woodard cushion work — the market is proven. The custom route cuts the same pieces to your numbers, at a per-piece make-base, in 119 fabrics at one flat rate.

Cortland Charts — Dealer-Published Sizes and Prices

One Woodard line has a genuinely public dimension record: the replacement specialists who chart Cortland piece by piece. Sizes below are transcribed from a specialist workshop’s published Cortland charts (checked October 2026) — treat them as reference to measure against, because your tape is the number we cut to:

Full Cortland run published by the specialist channel also includes the loveseat ($1,065), sofa ($1,619) and crescent sectional pieces ($1,430–$2,165); authorized dealers list the Cortland dining chair set from $410.90. No public chart exists for Briarwood, Belden or the vintage Russell Woodard shapes — those route through the measure-first method below, which is how the specialists build them anyway.

Wrought Iron and the Russell Woodard Shapes

Briarwood high-backs, barrel dining chairs, spring-base lounges, and the mid-century sculpted frames carry curves and tall backs that universal pads can’t follow. The specialist method is templating — trace the old pad’s seam line, or take the three frame numbers — and it is exactly what we do, without the collector-channel markup. Bring the rusted original: even a shredded pad gives us the seam line to cut to.

Measure First — Three Numbers, One Photo

Tape measure along the front edge of a boxy seat cushion on a wrought iron chair frame
  • Seat width, inside arm to inside arm — on cast frames measure the flat deck between the scroll arms; on iron frames, rail to rail where the pad actually sits. The Cortland charts above are your sanity check, not your master.
  • Depth front to back — front rail to the seat back. The published 24.8″ Cortland depth is the chart number; your piece may vary by model year.
  • Thickness at the seam — Cortland seats ran 6″, ottomans 5″, high-back dining pads 4.3″. You can match or change it; denser foam at the same size sits firmer longer.
  • One photo, straight-on — with the numbers it identifies the line and every curve question the order desk would call about. Tall Briarwood backs also need height, rim to seam.

Fabric Options — 119 Fabrics, One Flat Rate, Free Swatches

Woodard frames earn outdoor fabric that behaves like the metal: solution-dyed acrylic (Sunbrella-class), fade-stable through summers of UV and quiet under rain — the standard the wrought-iron era deserved and mostly didn’t get. All 119 fabrics price at one flat rate, and swatches ship free before you commit. Hold three against the frame, then build.

Frequently asked questions

What size are Woodard Cortland replacement cushions?

The specialist charts publish: swivel rocker and spring lounge seats 24 × 24.8 × 6 inches with 24.5 × 23.8 × 4.8 backs; ottoman 24.3 × 23.8 × 5; high-back dining pads 22 × 52 × 4.3; counter and bar stools 21 × 46 × 4.8. Treat every figure as a reference to measure against — your tape measure is the number we cut to.

Can you make cushions for a vintage Russell Woodard piece?

Yes. The mid-century sculpted iron and spun-fiberglass designs are exactly what templating is for: the three frame numbers, plus a seam line traced off your old pad when the shape is complex. The specialist shops that restore these pieces build the same way — we just cut to your numbers at a per-piece make-base instead of collector-channel prices.

My frames are wrought iron Briarwood — do the Cortland sizes apply?

No — Briarwood is a different line with its own shapes (high-back dining chairs, barrel chairs, spring-base lounges), and no public chart exists for it. The route is measure-first: seat width inside the scroll arms, depth, seam thickness, and the back height rim-to-seam for tall chairs. A straight-on photo settles the rest.

How much do Woodard replacement cushions cost?

The specialist channel publishes $493 for a Cortland swivel-rocker set, $279 for the ottoman, $515 for a high-back dining pad, and dealer listings start at $410.90 for the dining chair. Cut to your measurements from a $45 make-base, the same pieces estimate at $169 (ottoman), $177 (seat) and $279 (high-back pad) — every fabric the same flat rate.

Do you cut for cast aluminum sectionals and crescent pieces?

Yes — Cortland crescent benches, curved loveseats and sofa runs are measured module by module, exactly like the straight pieces. Number the modules with tape labels and measure each one; modules that look identical often differ by an inch, and per-piece pricing means you can replace one sun-beaten corner or the whole run.

How long do custom cushions take?

Made to order in 4–7 business days, or 3–5 on the rush lane when the season is biting, then shipping in 3-6 weeks, roughly half the wait typical US custom shops quote door to door — straight rectangles run toward the fast end, and traced curves for the vintage shapes add only a day or two.

Made and shipped by the same hands

Woodard ottoman pads estimate from $169 (24.3 × 23.8 × 5 in., 50D) — four steps to a quote.
