What OW Lee Actually Is — American Hand-Forged Since 1947

O.W. Lee has built heirloom-quality outdoor furniture in America since 1947 — hand-forged wrought-iron and welded-aluminum frames from its Texas works, sold through a nationwide dealer network in collections like Monterra, San Cristobal, Horizon, Classico and Arc. The metal is built for generations; the cushions are built for seasons — which is why the cushions, not the frame, are what you are replacing.

The factory sews its own replacements, but only through channels: a factory-store clearance page, an authorized cushion specialist and ordering dealers. At the dealers we checked, a Monterra lounge-chair set runs $945 with fabric grades adding up to $721 more, on an 18–20-week custom order — the reference table sits below. What a custom mill adds is everything that route can’t do: single pieces without buying the full set, builds in days instead of seasons, 119 fabrics at one flat rate, and your measurements — not a hidden factory chart — deciding every cut.

Premium Velvet$168

*A generic deep-seat example (24 × 24 × 5 in., 4.0 sq ft — a common Monterra-class block, not an OEM spec): $45 make-base + 4.0 sq ft × rate ($30.79 per sq ft, 5″ 50D foam + any of the 119 fabrics — fabric prices flat) ≈ $168. In 60D the same block runs ≈ $173; 65D ≈ $180; the configurator figures your exact numbers live.

Sets are per-block multiples — the dealer’s OW-21-CC lounge set is four blocks (one back, one seat, two arms), the OW273-3S three-seat sofa is eight, exactly as charted above. Four generic-size blocks estimate near $670 through the configurator — against $945 plus fabric-grade surcharges at the dealer, on an 18–20-week clock.

Where Your Set Lives — Two Different Frame Families

Wrought-iron frames (Monterra, Horizon)Aluminum frames (Arc, Aris, Avana, Classico)
Typical failureDeep lofts flatten and the fabric fades under full sun — heavy frames live in the openSame UV on lighter frames, plus salt air and poolside duty on coastal sets
Universal-pad fitPoor — deep 5–6″ lofts and curved armrests are nobody’s stock sizePoor — oversized deep-seat decks don’t map to big-box pads
Replacement spec50–60D foam cores; solution-dyed acrylic covers for seasons of sun50D-plus cores; solution-dyed acrylic throughout, quick-dry logic for open sky

Both families share the same enemy: a frame built for generations wrapped in foam built for seasons. Identify where yours lives before ordering — the fill and fabric specs are different jobs, and the comparison table maps the two.

Measure Your Piece — Three Numbers, One Photo

Measuring an OW Lee style deep-seat cushion edge to edge with a tape measure
  • Width first, frame over foam — inside edge to inside edge of the forged frame where the cushion sits. OW Lee publishes no size chart, so the frame is the surviving record; measure the frame whenever it is bare, the old cushion only when it is not.
  • Depth front to back — Monterra-class seats run deep; if your tape says something else, your tape wins and we cut to it.
  • Thickness at the seam — measure the old cushion’s side, not its domed top. The order forms take increments to ⅙″; record to the nearest quarter inch.
  • One photo, straight-on — with the three numbers it settles every question the order desk would otherwise call you about.

Fabric Options — 119 Fabrics, One Flat Rate, Free Swatches

OW Lee’s own replacement cushions are sewn in 100% solution-dyed acrylics — the dealers’ listings say so directly. Ours follow the same logic: the solution-dyed acrylic (Sunbrella-class) line is the outdoor standard — fade-stable, quiet under rain, cleanable with a simple soap-and-water wash — and every fabric on the list prices the same, so the choice is touch and duty, not markup. Free swatch cards on request: see and feel the exact cloth before anything is cut.

OW Lee Collections We Cut For

  • Current collections — Arc, Aris, Avana, Bistro (home of the Casa dining group), Classico, Harbour, Horizon, Marin, Monterra, Pasadera, San Cristobal and Tetra, as carried on the factory’s own navigation.
  • Monterra, piece by piece — lounge chair (OW-21-CC), spring base (OW-21-SB), swivel rocker (OW-21-SR), adjustable chaise (OW28-CH), loveseat (OW272-2S), crescent loveseat (OW262-2S), three-seat sofa (OW273-3S), sectionals (OW25-L / -R / -C), club dining (OW24-A, OW24-SR), dining chairs and swivel stools (OW04 series), ottomans (OW-19-O, round OW-22-O, double OW-112-2O).
  • Retired lines — Kensington and the earlier catalog names dealer charts no longer carry — Cambria, Palazzo, Heartland, Chalet, Vista, Classico, Creighton, Cibolo, Studio, Silana and Ashbury each have their own identification guide: we cut to yours.
  • Deep-seat sofas and sectionals — multi-block runs cut in one production pass so every seat and back matches.
  • Dining and swivel pieces — slim dining pads and curved rocker or glider backs cut to your numbers.
  • Ottomans, chaises and benches — single blocks any size; the round Monterra ottoman is a routine round cut here.

What the OW Lee dealer route sells (and what a mill adds)

The official route is real but slow: OW Lee sews its own replacements and routes them through the factory-store clearance page, its authorized cushion specialist and ordering dealers — the same dealers charted above, with Monterra lounge sets at $945, fabric grades up to +$721 and an 18–20-week custom clock. If you want the exact original block through the exact original channel, that route exists — plan for next season. What it can’t do is the single lost seat block this month, a fabric outside the factory card, or a density the order form doesn’t list — those orders come to a workshop that cuts to measurements.

One distinction worth knowing before either route: some dealers also sell replacement covers. Covers re-dress sound foam; replacement cushions renew the foam itself. Seats that have gone soft need cushions, not covers — the deeper comparison is in our cushion covers vs full replacement guide.

Frequently asked questions

Three numbers and a photo. Width inside the forged frame, depth front to back, thickness at the seam edge — the frame, not the old cushion, whenever the metal is bare. OW Lee publishes no size chart, so your tape is the surviving record; note it to the nearest quarter inch, and the order forms take eighths.

Yes — the current twelve collections, the retired lines dealers stopped charting, and the pieces nobody lists. The dealer SKU table above is our reference for set composition (which blocks, how many per piece); unpublished pieces are routine: your three measurements, one photo, and the block is cut. We are an independent workshop, not affiliated with O.W. Lee Co.

Test the foam, not the fabric. Press the seat flat and count: if it rebounds instantly and holds its edges, a cover is the cheaper fix. If it stays dished or the edges have gone soft, the foam is done and a cover is money on a dead core. Our cushions come sewn closed — spot cleaning, no zippers to fail.

There is no factory chart — neither owlee.com nor its dealers publish inch sizes, only set composition (the Monterra SKU table above: which blocks, how many per piece). Collections differ block by block, and your own measurements outrank all of it — the configurator prices exactly what your tape says.

From a $45 make-base plus area at per-sq-ft rates: a generic deep-seat block (24 × 24 × 5, 50D foam — a common Monterra-class size, not an OEM spec) estimates at $168, with the dealer’s Monterra dining cushion at $217.60 and lounge set at $945 for comparison. Every fabric prices flat, so fabric choice never moves the number.

Made to order in 4–7 business days (3–5 rush when the season is biting), then shipping in 3-6 weeks. The authorized dealers quote 18–20 weeks on the same Monterra sets — the mill schedule is a fraction of the wait, and straight blocks run toward the fast end of the window.

Made and shipped by the same hands

OW Lee seat blocks estimate from $168 (generic 24 × 24 × 5 in., 50D) — four steps to a quote.
