Replace Worn Patio Cushions in Three Steps
Replacement patio cushions take three steps: measure the old pads while they are still on the frame (any shape the old set was — trapezoid decks included, front and back widths typed separately), pick a foam build and one of our fabrics, confirm the numbers — and the set is rebuilt without buying a single new chair. Patio frames outlive their cushions by years: the aluminum or wicker skeleton is fine long after the pads have faded, flattened and started holding water. The furniture is not dead; its cushions are the wear parts.
This page is for the four situations patio owners actually arrive from: the fabric has bleached and cracked after a few summers, the foam inside has flattened and no longer sheds rain, the set was discontinued and the store would rather sell you a whole new patio than the pads, or one chair’s cushion was destroyed while the other five are fine. All four get the same answer — one seat pad or the full set, there is no minimum order.
Open the Customizer — Outdoor Rectangle Preselected →
Type each cushion’s width, depth and thickness, choose the foam build and fabric, and the price appears as you type — the estimate you see is the formula we cut by, not a quote-request lottery. Dining squares, deep-seat decks, bench runs and chaise pads all price in the same calculator.
Which lane are you in? Covers sound but foam flat on an indoor couch — that is a foam-core refill job: the diagnosis is in how to fix sagging couch cushions, and the cores themselves are couch foam cushions. Replacing a full indoor set — replacement couch cushions covers that lane. Worn pads on furniture that lives outside — this page, start with the customizer link above.

The honest first question is whether the frame deserves the investment. Wiggle-test the arms, check that welds and weave are intact, and look at the seat deck: if the structure is sound, replacement cushions at a fraction of a new set’s price are the cheapest route to a patio that looks re-bought — and in any fabric the original set never came in.
Pricing — Estimated Starting at $94
| Fabric tier | Estimated price* |
|---|---|
| 2″ thin-build (35D) | $94 |
| Cotton Linen | $114 |
| Tech Fabric | $114 |
| Premium Velvet | $114 |
*From price = 2″ 35D thin-build row above. One patio dining seat (19 × 19 × 3 in., 3" 50D): $45 make-base + 2.51 sq ft × rate ($27.37 per sq ft, 3" 50D foam + fabric, all fabrics one price). Deep-seating decks, bench runs and chaise pads price on their own area at the same formula — every piece on the patio, one calculator.
For comparison: big-box replacement pads come in a fixed size list that shrinks every season, and patio specialists quote made-to-order sets only after a quote request. We publish the formula above so you can check the math with a tape measure before you order.

Popular Replacement Sizes We Cut
| Piece you are replacing | Typical size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dining chair seats | 17–20″ squares at 2.5–3″ | Six chairs, one dye lot — colors match across the set |
| Outdoor sofa seats | 2–3 blocks of 20–26 W × 22–27 D × 4.5–6″ | Count the blocks before measuring — makers vary |
| Deep seating decks | 22–26 × 23–27″ at 5–6″ | Thick builds with tall backs — the deep-seat page |
| Bench and deck pads | 3–6 ft runs, 16–20″ deep | Sized to the deck, cut to your measured run — outdoor bench cushions |
| Chaise lounges | 42–50″ deep, hinged or seat + back | Hinge point measured on the frame — chaise lounge cushions |
| Umbrella-table seats | Center hole to your pole diameter | Measured deck edge to hole center, or an edge notch |
Yours differs? That is the point — we cut to your numbers, not to a size list. The near-standard squares live on the sizes shelf if you want a quick sanity check first.
How to Measure a Patio Cushion for Replacement

- Measure the old cushion while it is on the furniture, seam to seam, to the nearest quarter inch. The sewn dimensions of the old cover are the numbers the frame was built around — our cutting forms accept 1/8" increments.
- Covers gone or shapeless? Measure the frame instead: seat deck side to side and front to back, then match the original thickness so seat height does not change.
- Worn but unsure whether the sag is foam or design? Compare the old pad’s current thickness against its sewn thickness — a 4" pad sitting at 2½″ has taken a compression set, and new foam is the fix, not more fluffing.
- Do not “add a little for plumpness” — easing is cutting-table work, and nothing is cut until your numbers are confirmed against our database. Odd numbers get a phone call, not a guess.
Deep-seat and sofa measurements have one extra trap: the back pads. Measure seat and back separately — backs are usually taller and thinner than seats, and pricing runs on each piece’s own area. The full walkthrough with photos is in our measuring guides, and the mistakes we see most are collected in cushion measurement mistakes.

Choose Your Fabric: Three Families, One Price
The patio is the harshest address a cushion can have — full sun, rain, pollen, sprinkler overspray — and fabric decides whether the replacement outlives the pads it replaces. Our line runs three families, all at one price: Cotton Linen (piece-dyed weave, the budget tier for covered porches and shade), Tech Fabric (solution-dyed olefin blends, the working middle tier for partial sun and daily traffic) and Premium Velvet (solution-dyed acrylic with a 5-year fade warranty, the Sunbrella-grade build for full-sun decks). The tier-by-tier comparison lives in the outdoor fabric guide.
About the brand name itself: we do not sell Sunbrella — our Premium Velvet is the same solution-dyed acrylic construction, and the honest head-to-head (including where the brand premium is and is not worth it) is in Sunbrella vs regular outdoor fabric.

One rule from the sewing floor: the fade life of the tier has to match the sun the spot actually gets. A covered porch does not need acrylic; an uncovered west-facing deck will bleach a piece-dyed weave in one to two seasons — which is exactly how the last set died, and why the replacement should not repeat it.

Patio Sets We Build Replacements For
Any frame, brand or no brand — and a measured shelf for the brands whose parts desks went quiet. A workshop that cuts to dimensions instead of model numbers can rebuild every seat and back your patio set has. Two brands dominate the questions we get, and both have their own replacement libraries:
- Hampton Bay replacement cushions (the Home Depot lines) — measured series pages for Hampton Bay Beverly replacement cushions, Cambridge, Chateau, Edington, Fenton, Kampar and Beachside, with the full Hampton Bay shelf listing all 24 series in the library.
- Martha Stewart replacement cushions (the patio lines) — measured series pages for Martha Stewart Cedar Island replacement cushions, Charlottetown, Lake Adele, Lily Bay, Miramar, Palm Cove and Victoria Amelia — the full Martha Stewart shelf covers all 7.
- Every other brand and no brand — series tag lost or maker unknown? Measure the old pads and we cut to the numbers; the frame does not care what logo shipped with it. Start at the replacement cushions hub to browse other brands.
- The discontinued set — the frame the store stopped stocking pads for, usually two seasons after you bought it. Dimensions in, cushions out, in the fabric you pick; the parts department is a tape measure now.
Not sure which series you own? The model number is usually on a tag under the seat frame or stamped into the frame rail — match it against the series shelves above. No tag: the measurements are all we need.

Foam for Outdoors: Quick-Dry vs Standard
Outdoor foam has one job indoor foam never faces: it gets rained on. Quick-dry foam (reticulated foam, the trade name for it) is washed into an open-cell lattice with no windows to trap water — a soaked cushion drains in seconds and dries in hours, and the interior never stays damp long enough for mildew to establish. Standard high-density foam supports beautifully but holds the water it takes on; a fiber-only pad drains fast but packs flat in a season or two.
Which build fits: uncovered or poolside furniture answers “yes” to quick-dry and it earns its premium every storm; a covered porch or gazebo set can run standard foam at a lower rate, because it will not be soaked in the first place. The material science, pricing and where each build wins is unpacked in quick-dry foam for outdoor cushions, and the head-to-head with HD foam in HD foam vs dry-fast foam.

The tell that the old set had the wrong foam: cushions that stayed heavy for days after rain, then smelled of mildew by midsummer. That smell is trapped water feeding mold inside a closed-cell core — replacing the fabric alone will not fix it; the fill has to change too. This is also why our replacements let you switch fill independently of fabric: quick-dry cores go under any of the 119 covers.
Density still buys years the way it does indoors — the difference is that outdoors the water behavior of the cell structure matters as much as the density number. Both are chosen in the same customizer step.
Wet-Weather Drainage: How Water Gets Back Out
Quick-dry foam answers the core question; the sewing asks its own. Water reaches the inside of a sewn cushion through three doors none of us can close: the needle perforations along every seam, the zipper that exists so the cover can be washed (and admits sideways rain every storm), and the underside panel sitting against a wet sling. That is why “waterproof” on a sewn cushion always means water in and water out — fast — rather than water never.
So the fast-drying half of the promise is behavior, not just material: after rain, stand the cushions on edge with the lowest seam down and unzip the covers — two minutes, both faces drying, and mildew never gets the sustained dampness it needs. That edge-stand habit, plus a quick-dry or high-density core under a waterproof face, is the whole of what “mildew resistant” honestly means on a sewn patio cushion. What each layer of the word “waterproof” does and does not promise is unpacked in waterproof cushions explained, and the full soak-rescue routine is in how to drain waterlogged cushions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you buy replacement cushions only, without new furniture?
Yes — the whole point of this page. Frames outlast pads; replacement cushions rebuild the set at a fraction of new-furniture cost, cut to the old pads’ measurements or to the frame itself. One seat or the full set, there is no minimum order, and every piece prices on its own area.
How much do replacement patio cushions cost?
From $94 (2″ thin-build) and $114 for a standard dining seat (19 × 19 × 3", 3" 50D) — all fabrics at one price. The $45 make-base plus area-rate formula means a six-chair dining set lands in the mid hundreds; deep-seating sets and chaise runs price on their own area in the same calculator. Every part of the estimate maps to a size you can check with a tape measure.
How do I measure for replacement patio cushions?
Seam to seam over the old cover, to the nearest quarter inch, while the pad is on the frame. Covers gone? Measure the seat deck side to side and front to back, and match the original thickness. Our forms accept 1/8" increments, and nothing is cut until your numbers are confirmed — the full walkthrough is in our measuring guides.
Is Sunbrella worth it for patio cushions?
The material is worth it in full sun; the brand premium is situational. Sunbrella is solution-dyed acrylic, and that construction is what holds color for years — our Premium Velvet tier is the same construction with a 5-year fade warranty, at our one-price rate. Brand-name Sunbrella typically runs 30–80% more per cushion; worth it on an uncovered west-facing deck, harder to justify under a covered porch. The full head-to-head is Sunbrella vs regular outdoor fabric.
What sizes do replacement patio cushions come in?
Yours — we cut to your measurements, not a size list. The common starting points: dining squares 17–20″ at 2.5–3″, deep-seat decks 22–26 × 23–27″ at 5–6″, bench runs 3–6 ft, chaise pads 42–50″ deep. Umbrella holes cut to your pole diameter. Near-standard squares are on the sizes shelf.
How do replacement patio cushions attach to the furniture?
By fit, not fasteners — we don’t sew on ties or gripper undersides. A pad cut to your confirmed seam-to-seam numbers has no room to walk on the deck; for light pieces the wind can still move, a thin non-slip rug pad trimmed slightly smaller than the cushion, laid flat underneath, is the honest fix.
Can I replace just one cushion from a set?
Yes — one pad, no minimum, same per-piece rate as a full set. Send the old pad’s seam-to-seam numbers and we match the replacement to its neighbors in loft and thickness; note that dye lots vary between seasons, so an exact color match to years-old fabric is the one thing no mill can promise — replacing the full set at once is how you guarantee a match.
What foam should outdoor replacement cushions use?
Quick-dry (reticulated) foam for anything uncovered or poolside; standard high-density for covered spots. Quick-dry drains in seconds and dries in hours, so the core never stays damp enough to mildew — the trade-offs and pricing are in the quick-dry guide. Density still buys years; the cell structure decides what happens after rain.
How long do replacement patio cushions take?
Made to order in 4–7 business days, delivered in 3–6 weeks door to door, shipped direct from the mill. Straightforward dining squares run toward the fast end; notched, hinged and umbrella-hole pieces take the full window. Rush production cuts sewing time to 3–5 business days. Typical US custom shops quote three to six weeks of production alone.
What if the fit is off?
Every cushion is cut to a stated tolerance: ±½" (±¾" over 36″) — and anything outside it is remade free, any time you find it. If the confirmed number was simply off, the cushion was cut right; we will help you re-measure so the replacement fits the first time. Contact us with the order number and a photo of the cushion on the frame.
Do your cushions come with piping or welt cord?
Not as a standing option. Our sewing standard is clean, cord-free knife-edge seams — no decorative cord on any shape, any fabric. The flat profile wears evenly at the corners, cleans flat, and never traps debris along a raised seam.
Where are your cushions made?
In our own overseas factory — cut and sewn to your replacement measurements, shipped factory-direct to your door. What decides how long a replacement cushion lasts isn’t the country on the label; it’s foam density (we build on 50–65D foam), the fabric family (solution-dyed acrylic for full-sun patios), and seam construction — and we publish the numbers for all three. Factory-direct is why the same spec costs 40–60% less than a local shop: no middleman, no warehouse, no storefront. If made-in-USA is a hard requirement, a local upholsterer is the right call — budget 2–3x for US labor hours. Every order is made in 4–7 days, arrives in 3–6 weeks, and is backed by our free remake guarantee.
