What a Sactional Actually Is — the Modular Couch
Lovesac’s Sactionals is the American modular sectional: seat bases and sides that reconfigure into any shape, dressed with seat cushions and back pillows that pop in and out. The frames and clamps outlive everything on them — which is why the inserts, not the frame, are what you are replacing.
Lovesac still sells every replacement insert direct (a Standard seat lists at $155, Lovesoft at $182 on sale), the sizes are published, and every seat takes the same block. What the catalog never publishes is a foam density you can compare — and density is why a ten-year Sactional ends up described the way owners describe it.

Pricing — estimated starting at
| Sactional seat block (35 × 29 × 8 in.) | Estimated price* |
|---|---|
| Cotton Linen | $270 |
| Tech Fabric | $270 |
| Premium Velvet | $270 |
*One Sactional seat block (35 × 29 × 8 in., 7.05 sq ft): $45 make-base + 7.05 sq ft × rate ($31.99 per sq ft, 6″ 50D foam + any of the 119 fabrics — fabric prices flat) ≈ $270. The 8″ build and 60D density price in the configurator live — it figures your exact numbers as you build.
Sets are per-block multiples — a five-seat Sactional with five backs is ten blocks, cut in one production run so every block matches. The official per-insert prices in the table above give you the comparison point before you build.
One Couch, Three Official Fills — and What Actually Fails
| Official Standard foam | Official Lovesoft | A mill rebuild | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Three high-density foam layers, per the official spec | Down-alternative fill, “no fluffing” promised | 60D foam core, cut to your insert |
| Published size | 35″ × 29″ × 8″ seat | same shell | your measurements |
| Review score on lovesac.com | 3.3/5 — “started to breakdown” | 2.4/5 — “didn’t hold up” | density you can spec |
| Warranty | per official warranty terms | “Warranty Eligible: No” — official spec sheet | remake free on our miss |
Specs and review scores as published on lovesac.com, accessed October 2026. Both fills compress with daily use — the difference is how fast — and neither lists a density number you can compare. That number is the whole game.
Measure Your Insert — Three Numbers, One Photo
- Width, depth, thickness at the seam — unzip a seat cover, pull the insert, and tape it edge to edge. The published seat is 35″ wide × 29″ deep × 8″ tall; if your tape says otherwise, your tape wins and we cut to it.
- Back pillows the same way — published 35″ wide × 23″ tall. Measure yours flat, seam to seam, not what the fill puffs to.
- One photo, straight down — the tape readable across the insert. It settles any edge case before any fabric is unrolled.
Fabric Options — 119 Fabrics, One Flat Rate
Every fabric on the list prices the same, so the choice is touch and duty, not markup. Cotton Linen is a natural breathable weave for indoor rooms; Tech Fabric is waterproof and wipe-clean, the pragmatic pick for kids and pets; Premium Velvet resists pilling and cat claws. For full weather exposure, the solution-dyed acrylic (Sunbrella-class) line is the outdoor standard — fade-stable and quiet under rain.
Sactional Pieces We Cut For
- Seat cushions — the 35 × 29 × 8 blocks, cut in one production run so every block in the set matches.
- Back pillows — 35 × 23, rebuilt with real loft instead of the flattened fill.
- Partial sets — one lost seat, one dead back, the two blocks the dog claimed: singles are routine, not an exception.
- Non-standard builds — reclining seats, older series, odd configurations: your three measurements and one photo are the chart.

What Lovesac actually sells (and what a mill adds)
The official channel is alive: lovesac.com sells every replacement insert — Standard foam at $155, Lovesoft at $182 on sale, Down alongside — with free shipping in 1–2 weeks. If you want the exact original insert, that route exists and it is one click. What it can’t do is change what’s inside: the same fill at the same spec goes back in, the review scores on those very pages tell you how that ages, and the Lovesoft insert’s own spec sheet says “not warranty eligible.”
A mill rebuild goes the other direction: your measurements, 60D high-density foam, your pick of 119 fabrics, and a remake-free guarantee when the miss is ours. For a couch that costs what a Sactional costs, the frame deserves a denser second act.
Frequently asked questions
Unzip and measure the insert, not the cover. Width, depth, thickness at the seam — the published seat is 35″ × 29″ × 8″, the back pillow 35″ × 23″. If your tape disagrees with the chart, your tape wins and we cut to it. A straight-down photo with the tape readable settles any edge case.
Yes — Sactionals seats and back pillows are the routine job, and other pieces follow the same rule: three measurements and a photo. We are an independent workshop, so nothing needs to be in a catalog to be cut.
Test the foam you own. If one seat is dead and the rest are firm, a single official insert ($155) puts the room back to even. If the whole set is flattening — the pattern running through the reviews on Lovesac’s own product pages — replacing it with the same fill resets the same clock. That is the point of specifying 60D density instead.
As published on lovesac.com: seat cushion inserts 35″ wide × 29″ deep × 8″ tall; back pillow inserts 35″ wide × 23″ tall. Every seat takes the same block — that is the point of the system. Measure yours before ordering either way; older series and reclining seats can differ.
Official inserts: $155 per Standard seat, $182 per Lovesoft seat (sale, list $280), $93 per Standard back pillow (sale). Custom from the mill: from a $45 make-base plus area — a 35 × 29 × 8 seat block estimates near $270 in 50D, and the configurator figures your exact numbers live.
Made to order in 4–7 business days (3–5 rush when the season is biting), then shipping in 3-6 weeks, roughly half the wait typical US custom shops quote — against 1–2 weeks for the official quickship. Straight blocks like these run toward the fast end of the mill schedule.
