Build Your Bay Window Cushions
A bay window is three window seats and two corner turns — which is exactly why stock cushions fail at it. The front panel is never quite the width of the glass, and the corners aren’t square: most bays angle at 30, 45, or 60 degrees, and a rectangular pad bunched into that corner never looks right for long.
We cut bay window seating cushions the way the window was built: one front pad to your exact width, plus two corner wedges cut to your actual angle — measured in one pass with a protractor or a piece of paper. All three pieces in the same fabric and foam, cut to echo the architecture. Made to order by the factory, shipped as a set that drops straight into the bay.

Pricing — estimated starting at (per piece)
| Piece / fabric tier | Cotton Linen | Performance | Sunbrella |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corner wedge (e.g. 24 × 16 avg × 24 deep) | $118 | $118 | $118 |
| Front pad (e.g. 60 × 20) | $273 | $273 | $273 |
*Each piece: $45 make-base + top area × $27.37 per sq ft (3" 50D foam + fabric, all fabrics one price) Order all three pieces together in one fabric and one dye lot. Every dimension is confirmed with you before we cut.

For comparison: U.S. custom-configurator specialists’ 2026 listings for made-to-order cushions in common sizes (16×16 through 24×24) run roughly $71–$119 before shipping — and most only reveal that price after a quote request. We publish the formula above so you can check the math before you order.
Anatomy of a Bay Window Seat
| Bay component | Typical size (in.) | Shape we cut |
|---|---|---|
| Front pad | 36–72 × 16–24 | Rectangle (bowed front available) |
| Corner wedge | 16–24 deep, angle 30°/45°/60° | Wedge / Tapered |
| Bow window (curved) | 4–6 narrow segments built into an arc | Rectangle × N or Bowed |
Yours differs? That’s the point — we cut to your numbers.
How to Measure a Bay Window Seat
- Measure the corner angle first: press a piece of paper into the corner, crease it, and read the fold with a protractor — or use a phone angle app. Most bays are 30°, 45°, or 60°; confirm before you order, not after.
- Front width goes clear edge to edge — from where the wedges start on the left to where they start on the right.
- A curved bay is a bow window, not a true bay: those are built from multiple narrow rectangles, not wedges.
- Order all pieces in one fabric and one dye lot so the three sections read as a single run.

Fabric on Three Sides of Glass

Bay windows face glass on three sides — the strongest light exposure of any seat in the house. Colorfastness leads the recommendation: solution-dyed acrylic (Sunbrella’s indoor line) holds its color where ordinary weaves bleach within a year, and performance weaves cover the mid-tier. Whatever you choose, all three pieces come cut from the same lot — one fabric, one dye run, no shade shift from wedge to wedge. See the full fabric guide for the tier-by-tier comparison.
Bay Windows We Build For
- The straight-run bay with angled corners — one front pad to your exact width plus two corner wedges cut to your measured angle; all three pieces order as one fabric run so the dye lots agree around the turn.
- The full bow window — a curve built from segments, not wedges: we divide the run into narrow rectangles that follow the arc, each piece on the same per-square-foot formula.
- The bay that is really a window seat — a straight run with square corners needs no wedges at all: that is a window seat cushion, measured and priced the same way.

Trapezoids, wedges, and the corners between
Bay window corners are not square — they are trapezoids, wedge blocks wider at the glass than at the seat, and naming them precisely is half the measuring job. Each corner piece is its own cut: front width along the window, back width along the bench, depth bridging the two, and the angle between front and side does the rest. Curved bays swap the straight wedges for radiused pieces — send the chord and rise, or trace the curve on paper, and the shop cuts to the arc. The charts below walk every configuration we ship, but the shape vocabulary is short: one front pad, two corner wedges, three angles, no square corners anywhere.
Fit rules for tight bays: deduction, height, and arrival
Three numbers keep a bay build honest. Wall-to-wall runs: deduct a quarter to half inch from your measurement — fabric and sewing tolerance need the slack, and a cushion jammed tight bows in the middle. Seat height: aim for 18 to 20 inches from floor to the bay window seat pad’s top including the bench; a bay you can’t sit in comfortably is shelving. Arrival: long runs and wedges ship compressed, and the foam needs 48 to 72 hours flat to regain full loft — judge the fit after day three, not at the door.
Window seats live harder than they look
Two things bay windows do to cushions that regular seats never see: condensation along the glass line on cold mornings, and dye transfer from daily sitting (denim is the usual culprit). Both argue for a zip-off cover you can wash instead of spot-treating the whole core — every build here ships with a removable cover as standard, and a light second cover is the cheapest insurance for a seat that gets afternoon sun and daily use.
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure the corner angle of my bay window?
Three ways, easiest first: hold a piece of paper into the corner, crease it, and measure the fold with a protractor; use a phone angle app; or measure both edges off a known square. Most bays are 30°, 45°, or 60° — but confirm before you order, not after.
Do I need separate cushions for the corners?
If your bay has angled side walls, yes — wedge cushions fill the corners so the front pad runs straight. If your bay is a curve (a bow window), we cut multiple narrow pads instead. Send a top-view sketch and we’ll map the pieces with you.
Can the front cushion follow a curved bay?
Yes — choose a bowed front on the front pad, or for full bow windows we divide the run into segments so the whole seat follows the curve. Both options start with the same measurements.
Can I order standard bay window cushion sizes?
Yes — standard sizes too, in 3 clicks, for the straight front pad — common runs land 16–24 inches deep at 3 thick, and typing the numbers in gets the same instant factory-direct quote, never out of stock. The corner wedges are the custom part: angles vary house to house, which is exactly why we cut to measurements.
How thick should a bay window cushion be?
3 inches is the sweet spot for most bays — supportive enough to sit on, slim enough not to block the view or headroom. Go 4–5" for a reading nook you’ll sit in for hours, 2" for a decorative hallway seat.
How long does a custom bay window cushion take?
Every bay build is cut and sewn after you order — production is 4–7 business days, and rush production is 3–5 business days for a surcharge. Production is separate from delivery (3–6 weeks door to door); typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks for the same build, and we ship direct from our own workshop.
How do I clean and care for the fabric?
Wipes handle the daily work — and every cover unzips for machine washing when a full clean is due. Tech Fabric is the easy one: a waterproof surface that wipes clean with a damp cloth. Cotton Linen spot-cleans, with a low-heat iron on the reverse if it creases. Velvet can be dry cleaned or gently hand washed, brushing the pile flat to dry; Chenille is spot clean only — never brush the tufts. See all fabric options in the configurator, and zoom the weave shots before you commit.
What if my measurements turn out wrong?
Contact us with photos and the measurements you confirmed, so we can review the build against your numbers. If the mistake is ours — outside the ±½″ tolerance, wrong fabric, wrong build — the cushion is remade free, any time. If the confirmed number was simply off, the cushion was cut right; we’ll help you re-measure so the replacement fits the first time.
How do I fill the gap between my bay window seat and the wall?
Measure the gap’s width, depth and length and order a foam strip to those numbers — the same cut-to-size order as the seat cushions themselves. Bay window seats often meet the side walls or window frame with a narrow open seam where cushions slide and things drop; a strip half an inch to an inch wider than the gap holds by compression alone, with nothing fastened to the frame. The three-measurement method is laid out in what size bed gap filler do I need — the same numbers apply to any seat-to-wall seam, and ready-cut bed gap fillers ship with the cover sewn on.
Is a Bay Window Cushion Right for You?
- Your bay’s angles are probably not 90 degrees. Ordering square corner wedges for a bay that reads 12 degrees off square leaves gaps you can see from across the room — measure all three angles (a photo of each corner works) and the wedges come out trapezoid, as cast.
- Wall-to-wall runs need the deduction. Deduct a quarter to half inch from your tape measurement — fabric and sewing tolerance need the slack, and a run jammed tight bows along its length. Too loose wanders; the tolerance window is the honest zone.
- Unsure about color? Email the factory before you order. Screens shift color, and afternoon light shifts it again — send a photo of where the cushion will live and we will tell you honestly how each fabric reads in that spot. The two-minute email is cheaper than a wrong-color guess.
- Custom-cut means non-returnable. Custom-cut means non-returnable. A cushion cut to your numbers fits exactly one frame on earth — tolerances are published in writing (±½″, ±¾″ over 36″), and anything outside them against your confirmed numbers is remade free, whenever the error is found.
