Cushions to Fit IKEA — Measured, Not Guessed
IKEA is the largest flat-pack furniture maker in the world, and its cushion system works exactly like the rest of flat-pack: a current line sometimes sells cushions as accessories, and a retired line has nothing behind it. People searching IKEA replacement cushions are almost always holding a frame that outlived its catalog support — an EKTORP discontinued in 2024, an APPLARO patio set retired with the season, a POÄNG whose cushion colors rotated out, or a HAVSTEN set whose $190-per-piece pads disintegrated long before the wicker did. The outdoor side runs on the same clock, faster: IKEA outdoor cushions searches spike every spring for frames like TÄRNÖ and NÄMMARÖ, whose pads IKEA sells only while the colorway runs — then the frame keeps serving and the pad program moves on.
The honest version: IKEA publishes seat width, seat depth and seat height on its product pages — some of the best dimension data in the furniture industry — but it does not run a parts program for retired lines. This index is our working database: 12 series with live measurement charts (sources: official IKEA product pages, archived official values, and surviving aftermarket spec tables), and every other series — including retired APPLARO and SALTHOLMEN — made to your measurements. Non-IKEA couches take the same route through replacement couch cushions made to your measurements.
IKEA publishes seat height rather than cushion thickness on most lines (we choose foam thickness to restore the published height), and retired series without reliable sources stay off the charts and on the custom route.

The library is reliability-graded by source: live product pages first, then archived official values, then surviving spec tables.
Indoor IKEA vs Outdoor IKEA — Different Specs
| Indoor sofas & chairs | Outdoor sets (TÄRNÖ / NÄMMARÖ / HAVSTEN) | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical failure | Foam compression — dished seats, limp fiber backs | Fabric fade and waterlogging before foam death |
| Universal-market fit | Poor — metric fractions, shaped pads, one-piece runs | Fair only where pads are plain squares (19 5/8 grid) |
| Replacement spec | 45–60D foam cores; thickness set to restore seat height | Solution-dyed acrylic covers; 50D-plus foam |
Identify which half of the catalog your piece is from before ordering — the fill and fabric specs are different jobs. The comparison behind those choices: custom sofa cushions (indoor) and custom outdoor cushions (patio).
Mismatch with the chart? The chart loses — your measurements win.
How to Identify Your IKEA Series

- The 8-digit article number — on the paper label once stapled under the frame, on your ikea.com order history, or on the assembly manual. It resolves the exact piece and year range, which matters because long-running lines get mid-cycle revisions.
- The series name — KIVIK, POÄNG and friends are global and stable, but match against the charts before ordering.
- Your measurements — compared with the charts above, within half an inch is a match.
Full method: our three-step measuring guide.
Rather have a human start it? Email your article number (a photo of the frame label is even better) to hello@cushionmill.com — we reply with the measuring checklist for your piece, and the numbers you send back go straight to the cutting table.
The Outdoor Pad System (KUDDARNA & Friends)
IKEA’s current outdoor line sells pads separately, and the pads are the data: KUDDARNA chair pads come in exactly 19 5/8 × 19 5/8, 17 3/8 × 17 3/8 and 14 1/8 × 12 5/8 — plus a 24 3/8 × 24 3/8 seat pad, 47 1/4 × 15 3/4 bench pad and a 74 3/4 × 23 5/8 sun lounger cushion. The TÄRNÖ and NÄMMARÖ pages in this index map those pads to their frames. When a colorway retires and the pad program moves on, the frame keeps serving — and we cut to the same numbers.

Retired Lines — Made to Your Measurements
No trustworthy piece-level dimensions survive anywhere public for these lines (official pages went dark with retirement). Rather than publish guesses, we list them for identification — every one is orderable as a custom cut: measure the old cushion or frame, send us the numbers, we sew to them.
- APPLARO (outdoor, retired)
- SALTHOLMEN (outdoor, retired)
- LANDSKRONA fabric version
- VALLENTUNA
- KLINTEN
- VIMLE / SOLSTA (US-delisted)
- GRONLID (armchair two generations — 2019 vs 2023 differ by 8" in width; cover-maker tables survive for this one, measure before ordering anyway)

Can You Still Order EKTORP Replacement Cushions?
Directly from IKEA in the US — effectively no. EKTORP was discontinued around 2024 and the US catalog retired its cushions with the line. The one official listing that still sells EKTORP replacement seat interiors sits on IKEA’s Netherlands site (ikea.com/nl), a storefront that serves Dutch delivery addresses, not US ones. What remains stateside is the as-is corner — returned and display stock, whatever happens to be on the shelf that week — and IKEA customer service’s spare-parts desk, which can chase historical parts case by case while stock lasts; worth one phone call before giving up on the factory-exact route, but it is a phone call, not a supply chain.
Two facts decide what happens next. First, IKEA never made EKTORP cushions to order — pads were fixed-size catalog articles, the same way the outdoor pad system still works (KUDDARNA chair pads in exactly three sizes), so “replacement” was always a lookup against a live article number, never a made-to-measure service. Second, the full EKTORP geometry survives in cover-maker spec tables — which is why this index carries a piece-by-piece EKTORP chart and cuts replacements to those charted dimensions in any of the 119 fabrics, fixed sizes and all. One honest limit: what we make is a new cushion to EKTORP’s dimensions, not an IKEA part — covers-only orders aren’t ours, every piece is a complete cushion built around its core, and it ships as our work, not theirs.
Frequently asked questions
Partly. A few lines sell cushions as separate accessories while the pattern is current — POÄNG chair cushions are the famous case, ANTILOP runs a $9.99 inflatable supporting cushion, and the outdoor line runs a seasonal pad program (HAVSTEN’s official seat/back pads run $190 per piece). But IKEA runs no parts program for retired patterns: when a line is discontinued (EKTORP indoors, APPLARO and SALTHOLMEN outdoors), the cushions disappear with it, and replacement moves to the secondhand market or a workshop that cuts to measurements.
Rarely. IKEA seat depths run 18 7/8 to 24 inches with metric-derived fractions (22 7/8, 23 5/8) that do not line up with inch-based standard sizes. A 24 × 24 universal pad on a KIVIK seat (23 5/8 deep) overhangs the front edge; a 19 × 19 dining cushion on a SÖDERHAMN seat (18 7/8 deep) bunches. Cut to the fraction, not the rounded inch.
Three places, in order of strength: the 8-digit article number on the paper label under the frame (it resolves the exact piece and year range — critical for two-generation lines), your ikea.com order history, and the assembly manual. Series names are global and stable across years, but revisions happen mid-run, so the article number beats the name.
Yes. EKTORP’s full 12-piece geometry survives via cover-maker spec tables (see the EKTORP chart); for retired lines with no surviving spec (APPLARO, SALTHOLMEN, fabric LANDSKRONA), the route is measuring the furniture itself — seam to seam, every distinct block — and we cut to your numbers.
IKEA publishes seat height, not cushion thickness. Use the published seat height as your target and choose foam thickness to restore it. Practical references: POÄNG chair cushions are officially 2 inches, aftermarket EKTORP seats run about 4 inches of loft, and aftermarket KIVIK-cut foam runs 3 inches — the numbers in each series chart are the starting point.
No. UPPLAND inherited EKTORP’s design language and its 22 7/8-inch seat depth, but the frames and covers are their own. Check the piece against both charts in this index before ordering anything EKTORP-branded for a UPPLAND frame or vice versa.
Yes. Outdoor IKEA series like TÄRNÖ, NÄMMARÖ and HAVSTEN are in this index with measured pad charts, and retired outdoor lines (APPLARO, SALTHOLMEN) are orderable as custom cuts. Outdoor builds get solution-dyed acrylic covers over 50D-plus foam — a different spec from indoor IKEA cushions, and the indoor-vs-outdoor table above splits the two.
Yes — KIVIK is a current IKEA line and we cut to your measurements rather than to a series chart. Measure width, depth and thickness off your existing pads; IKEA sizes are metric (a 55 cm seat reads 21.75 inches — send either unit, we convert). Cushions arrive in 4–7 business days. The series chart lower on this page covers the discontinued lines if you own one of those instead.
Not through the US catalog — EKTORP was discontinued around 2024 and its cushions retired with it; the surviving official listing for EKTORP seat interiors sits on IKEA’s Netherlands site, which serves Dutch addresses only. US owners are left the as-is corner and a case-by-case spare-parts request, while custom replacements cut to EKTORP’s charted dimensions ship from our bench in 4–7 business days, fabric your choice.
No — seat by seat, IKEA publishes seat height: floor to the top of the seat cushion, back cushions excluded. The backs sit above that number and are specced separately on every chart we publish, which is also how a rebuild orders them — the seat block restores the published seat height, and each back cushion is cut to the back’s own width and height as you measure it. If the question behind the question is clearance under a shelf or a window treatment, measure the assembled frame with its cushions in place: the tape settles it.
Any of them. Twelve series run full measured charts — KIVIK, EKTORP, UPPLAND and SÖDERHAMN among them — and every other line, current or long retired, goes through the custom route: you measure the old cushions seam to seam, we cut to the numbers. Sofa, couch, loveseat or sectional, the route is the same — count the seat blocks, measure one of each distinct piece, and order the whole set in a single run so foam and fabric lots match.
It depends on the line’s tier. Flagship seating such as KIVIK builds seats from high-resilience cold-cure foam layered over standard polyurethane with a pocket-spring unit beneath, with fiber-ball back cushions; simpler lines run plain polyurethane foam. A rebuild replaces all of it with 45–60D high-resilience foam cut to your measurements — firmer for longer than catalog spec — at a thickness chosen to restore the original seat height. The series pages break down what each line shipped with.
