The HAVSTEN line at a glance
HAVSTEN is IKEA’s generous outdoor wicker line – hand-woven plastic rattan on aluminum frames, wide armchairs and loveseats built for real lounging. The frames last a decade outdoors. The cushions are the line’s known weak point: the official seat/back pad runs $190 per piece, and its inserts – poly fill wrapped in a thin gauze – are documented (in hundreds of owner reviews) to disintegrate within a season or two of normal use.
That combination is why this page exists: a five-piece set runs $600 to $1,000 in official pads, the disintegrating inserts make the covers impossible to launder, and the pad sizes are non-standard – 34 1/4 x 32 1/4 x 9 7/8 is a shape no universal outdoor cushion line stocks. We cut to the official numbers, in solution-dyed acrylic over foam that survives being washed.
Quarter-inch decimal input on every field, with the estimate tracking each keystroke. What ships weekly: individual seats and backs, complete matched sets, split seat blocks for multi-seat frames, notched corners that clear trim, thickness tiers from 2 through 8 inches — priced by a single per-square-foot formula, so shape is never a line item.
Not this series, or a piece that isn’t charted? Start from any shape → — the cut goes by your tape.
Two chairs, two postures: reading the HAVSTEN seat heights
HAVSTEN is one line with two seating philosophies, and the published numbers draw the line better than any showroom photo. The armchair sits you at 16 1/2 inches with a 31 1/8 x 24 3/8 surface, an upright reading-chair posture. The loveseat drops its seat to 11 3/8 inches on a 62 1/4 x 26 3/8 deck, which is half-lounging territory, closer to a daybed than a sofa. If you are rebuilding both, resist the instinct to copy one pad design onto the other: the tall chair rewards a firmer, thinner pad that keeps the posture honest, while the low loveseat can carry a loftier build that leans into the reclined geometry.
The official pad set explains its own strange dimensions once you see it as a silhouette, not a slab. The seat pad, 34 1/4 wide by 32 1/4 long by 9 7/8 thick, runs about three inches wider than the armchair’s actual seat, because the all-wrapped-edge design folds down over the frame’s edge on all sides. The back pad is proportioned completely differently, 22 1/2 by 31 1/2 by 7 7/8, a rounded backrest roll rather than a rectangle. A measured replacement can honor those outlines exactly, or square them off into a plainer block if you prefer the tailored look; what it cannot do is ignore them, because the frame’s woven edges are what the wrap protects.
Thickness is the engineering problem specific to this line. A single block of foam cut ten inches thick feels great for a month and then cups permanently wherever two people sit every evening. The durable approach is layers: a firm high-density base in the five-to-six inch range that carries weight, a softer topper for the initial sit, and a cover that holds the two together as one shape. Layered builds also dry faster after rain, since water drains between the layers instead of soaking one monolithic core.
Pricing — estimated starting at
| Piece | 35D Standard | 50D Firm | 65D Extra Firm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seat pad (32 1/4 x 34 1/4) | $274 | $281 | $304 |
| Back pad (31 1/2 x 22 1/2) | $192 | $197 | $211 |
| Armchair full set (seat + back) | $466 | $478 | $515 |
These are estimates — $45 make-base + area at per-sq-ft rates, made after you order. Production waits on your confirmed final quote. Covers close with a zipper and remove for washing.
As a yardstick: U.S. specialists running custom configurators priced made-to-order cushions for common sizes (16×16 through 24×24) around $71–$119 before shipping in 2026 — numbers most buyers only see after asking for a quote. We print the formula above so you can audit the arithmetic first.
HAVSTEN cushion sizes — every dimension

| Armchair | Seat | 1 | 31 1/8 × 24 3/8 × 16 1/2 seat H | official PDP: seat 31 1/8 W x 24 3/8 D x 16 1/2 H; overall 38 5/8 x 37 x 35 3/8; tested for 243 lb |

| Seat pad (official accessory) | Seat pad | 1 | 34 1/4 × 32 1/4 | official PDP: seat pad 32 1/4 L x 34 1/4 W x 9 7/8 thick - the all-wrapped-edge design runs wider than the frame seat |

Figures come from official IKEA product data — live pages, archived official values, or surviving aftermarket spec tables. Sizes are in inches; metric-derived fractions such as 22 7/8 or 23 5/8 are normal — cut to the fraction, not the rounded inch.
Measure before you order

Three minutes with a tape measure prevents the classic IKEA mistake — ordering rounded inch sizes for metric fractions. Measure seam to seam, every distinct block, to the nearest quarter inch per our measuring guide; we verify your numbers against the chart above before cutting anything.
Fabric options
Fit identical in all three: cotton linen (daily durability), tech fabric (water-resistant, wipes clean), premium velvet (upscale, claw-resistant). For outdoor pieces: solution-dyed acrylic covers over 50D-plus foam.

Is your set really HAVSTEN?
HAVSTEN is the wide hand-woven rattan-look line – chunky woven surfaces, generous proportions, elastic mesh seating under the pads, usually in beige-white. If your pads’ inserts turned to shreds when you unzipped the covers, you have confirmed the line the hard way. The measurement check: seat pad around 34 x 32 and nearly 10 inches thick is HAVSTEN territory and nothing else. Full method: our three-step measuring guide.

Frequently asked questions
The official seat/back pad runs $190 per piece – a five-piece set approaches $1,000, which is why so many HAVSTEN frames sit cushion-less in owner reviews. A custom cut to the same official measurements (seat 32 1/4 x 34 1/4 x 9 7/8, back 31 1/2 x 22 1/2 x 7 7/8) typically lands well under half of that, in better foam.
Yes, and that is the cleanest fix when the outer covers are still good: we cut foam cores to the official pad dimensions that drop back into your existing covers. The factory inserts are poly fill in a thin gauze that shreds – a real foam core solves the problem permanently.
No. The seat pad runs 34 1/4 by 32 1/4 inches and nearly 10 thick – universal outdoor pads top out around 24 x 24 in standard lines. The non-standard size is exactly why owners report no lower-cost option exists off the shelf; it is a measured cut.
Yes – solution-dyed acrylic over 50D-plus foam is our standard outdoor build for this line, and the covers are sewn to survive being removed and washed, which is precisely where the factory pads fail.
Cutting and sewing start once the order is in — plan on a 4-7 business-day make-and-ship window: production typically runs 4–7 business days, with a 3–5 business-day rush option on most fabrics.
Every cover unzips and removes, so cleaning can be a cloth or a cycle. The easiest tier is Tech Fabric — a waterproof surface that wipes down damp. Cotton Linen spot-cleans and takes a low-heat iron on its back side when creased. Velvet goes to the dry cleaner or a careful hand wash, pile brushed flat to dry; Chenille stays spot-clean only, tufts untouched.
