Description

Build Your Deep Seat Cushion

Deep seating is the patio lounging posture, not just a bigger chair: the deck runs 23–27 inches front to back, the seat runs 5–6 inches thick, and the back is a tall, often wedge-shaped pad with 4–7 inches of loft. Universal cushions are cut for none of that — the depth gap sits behind your knees and the loft gap sits under it.

We cut deep seat patio cushions to your frame’s numbers — seats, backs, ottomans — for named Hampton Bay and Martha Stewart series straight from our measured charts, and for everything else from your tape measure. Five-inch seats and seven-inch backs are daily work on our cutting tables.

*One lounge seat (25 × 26 × 5 in.): $45 make-base + 4.5 sq ft × rate ($30.79 per sq ft, 5" 50D foam + fabric). Loveseats and sofas are per-block multiples; backs and ottomans price on their own area.

Custom deep seat cushions, made to your measurements — tailored scene

For comparison: U.S. custom-configurator specialists’ 2026 listings run made-to-order cushions well above formula price once configured — and most only reveal that number after a quote request. The pricing math is right on the page — every dollar of the estimate traces back to a dimension you can measure.

Popular Deep Seat Sizes We Cut

Piece Typical size Notes
Lounge chair seat 22–26 W × 23–27 D × 5–6" Common stock sizes: 24 × 24, 24 × 26, 25 × 25
Sofa (3 seats) 3 blocks of 22–25 W × 24–27 D Count seat blocks before measuring
Back cushion Matches seat W × 18–26 H × 4–7" loft Wedge (thicker at the bottom) is common
Ottoman 19–26 W × 16–24 D × 4–6" The piece people forget to order
Corner / wedge piece ~27 × 27 with a diagonal front Sectionals; template the corner angle

Typical deep-seating sizes — stock squares exist for the common seats (typical, always measure).

Real factory measurements from our database, as a sanity check: Spring Haven deep-seating seats run 23.5 × 27 × 5; Santa Rosa loveseat seats run 28 × 23 × 5; Cedar Island lounge seats run 22 × 24.5 × 5. Yours differs? That’s the point — we cut to your numbers.

How to Measure a Deep Seat Cushion

  • Measure the seat deck, not the frame outside — depth from the back to the front edge, width at the widest point; decks often taper wider at the front, so record front and back widths separately.
  • Backs: height from the deck to the top edge, then the loft (thickness) at the bottom and top — wedge backs are thicker at the bottom by design.
  • Count seat blocks before measuring: loveseats and sofas are separate pads per seat, not one joined mattress.
  • Don’t forget the ottoman — it is the piece people forget to order.

Fabric and Fill for Lounging Hours

Custom deep seat patio cushions construction close-up — foam core, fabric and stitching detail

Deep seating is where people actually spend the afternoon, so the fill decision matters: 50D+ high-resilience foam holds its front edge for seasons, where thin universal pads are flat by midsummer. Three fabric tiers cover most projects: breathable cotton linen for covered spots, tech fabric for weather, premium velvet for indoor polish. The tier-by-tier comparison is in the fabric guide.

Extra-Thick Loft: Up to 8 Inches

Some deep-seat projects are not about support at all — they are about disappearing into the seat. If you are building a platform daybed, a floor-level lounging nook, or a wide bay-window bench meant for actual napping, standard 5–6 inch loft can feel like a suggestion rather than a seat. The feel those projects chase is sinking in, not sitting on — and loft is the dial that buys it.

The customizer’s thickness field runs the full range: 2 to 8 inches, in 1/8-inch increments, on every shape. A 36-inch-deep platform or floor-sofa build can get a matching 8 inch (20 cm) core when sink-in is the point — deep first-sit compression, and you still land on foam, not frame.

Where each tier earns its keep: 5–6 inches is the deep-seating standard for patio frames and sectionals; 7–8 inches belongs to built-in platforms, daybed nooks and window benches where the deck itself runs deep and lounging turns horizontal.

Thickness this large makes density non-optional. At 8 inches we recommend 50D and up — the same high-resilience grade this page specs for deep seating — because a tall block of low-density foam reads plush on day one and sits flat by midsummer. Density is lifespan; thickness is only geometry. The full thickness decision — feel, measuring for it, and when thick becomes too thick — is unpacked in the extra thick cushions guide.

Deep-Seating Frames We Build For

  • The lounge chair — one seat at 22–26 × 23–27 on 5–6 inches with a tall wedge back; the everyday unit of deep seating.
  • The sofa and loveseat — measured block by block, never as one joined mattress; each seat, back and corner prices on its own area in one run.
  • The ottoman and corner wedge — the pieces people forget: ottomans at 19–26 × 16–24, sectional corners templated for the diagonal front.

Outdoor deep seat cushions

The same 5–8 inch lofts, weatherized: outdoor deep seat cushions swap the upholstery foams for quick-dry cores on exposed patios and run solution-dyed acrylic covers in the sun, so the block that made deep seating comfortable also survives the season that tries to kill it. The full field guide — seating types, deck depths, what “deep” means per frame family — is our outdoor deep seat cushions guide.

Choosing between loft tiers outdoors follows the same ladder as indoors, with one added question: how much weather the seat actually takes. Fully exposed frames belong in the quick-dry build covered on our quick-dry outdoor cushions page; covered porches can run the plush high-density cores and treat sun as the only enemy, which is where the solution-dyed acrylic route starts. For the loft-first builds — 6 inches and up on any frame — the tier-by-tier comparison lives on the thick outdoor cushions page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order standard deep seat cushion sizes?

Yes — standard sizes too, in 3 clicks: common deep-seating seats cluster at 24 × 24 to 25 × 25 by 5 inches — stock squares like 24 × 24 and 25 × 25. Type the standard numbers into the customizer for the same instant factory-direct quote — your size is never out of stock.

What size is a deep seat cushion?

Typically 22–26 wide by 23–27 deep at 5–6 inches thick, with back cushions of 4–7 inches of loft — but deep-seating dimensions vary frame to frame; measure the seat deck and back height of your own furniture before ordering.

What’s the difference between deep seating and regular patio cushions?

Depth and loft: regular patio and dining cushions run 17–20 inch decks at 2.5–4 inches; deep seating runs 23–27 inch decks at 5–7 with tall, often wedge-shaped backs. The posture is lounging, not dining.

Can I use regular cushions on deep seating furniture?

You can place them; you cannot get deep-seating comfort from them — the depth gap sits behind your knees, the loft gap sits under it, and flat backs leave your shoulders against frame. The fit problems are geometric, not quality-of-cushion.

How thick can you make a cushion?

Up to 8 inches (about 20 cm), in 1/8-inch increments across every shape. For deep seating, 5–6 inches is the standard spec and 7–8 is the sink-in tier for platforms, daybed nooks and window benches.

How do I replace cushions for a Hampton Bay deep-seating set?

Identify the series name and pull its dimensions from our measured charts — 24 Hampton Bay and 7 Martha Stewart collections documented — and order to OEM specs; unknown series fall back to measuring and custom cutting.

Can you cut trapezoid deep-seat cushions for wicker frames?

Yes — wicker deep-seaters that run wider at the front than the back are a standard shape in the customizer: enter the front width and back width separately and the estimate prices the true panel area. The trapezoid measurement guide walks the two-width method.

How long does a custom cushion take?

Made to order in 4–7 business days — rush production is 3–5 business days for a surcharge — delivered in 3–6 weeks door to door. Typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks for the same build; we publish the number instead of burying it in a quote.

Do your cushions come with piping or welt cord?

Not as a standing option. Our sewing standard is clean, cord-free knife-edge seams — no decorative cord on any shape, any fabric. The flat profile wears evenly at the corners, cleans flat, and never traps debris along a raised seam.

Where are your cushions made?

In our own overseas factory — cut and sewn to your measurements, shipped factory-direct to your door. What decides how long a deep-seat cushion lasts isn’t the country on the label; it’s foam density (we build on 50–65D foam), the fabric family (solution-dyed acrylic where sun hits the lounging set), and seam construction — and we publish the numbers for all three. Factory-direct is why the same spec costs 40–60% less than a local shop: no middleman, no warehouse, no storefront. If made-in-USA is a hard requirement, a local upholsterer is the right call — budget 2–3x for US labor hours. Every order is made in 4–7 days, arrives in 3–6 weeks, and is backed by our free remake guarantee.

Is a Custom Deep Seat Cushion Right for You?

  • Every inch of loft is an inch of knee lift. Deep seating runs 5–6 inches thick; on a low frame that can push knees past the coffee table edge. Check the arm-to-seat height with a tape measure before choosing loft — thickness is a frame decision before it is a comfort one.
  • Covers unzip — removable and washable. Zippered: the cover comes off the foam, so cleaning is a damp cloth and mild soap between machine cycles. Wipe for the daily, wash for the deep clean.
  • Unsure about color? Email the factory before you order. Screens shift color, and afternoon sun shifts it again — send a photo of where the piece will live and we will say honestly how each fabric reads in that spot. The two-minute email is cheaper than a wrong-color guess.
  • Custom-cut means non-returnable. A cushion cut to your numbers fits exactly one frame on earth — tolerances are published in writing (±½″, ±¾″ over 36″) and anything outside them against your confirmed numbers is remade free, whenever the error is found.

Made by the factory that ships them

  • Outdoor cushion factory for 10+ years — we cut, fill, and sew every order ourselves.
  • Every dimension you send is re-checked before a single yard of fabric is cut.
  • Made-to-order means any fabric, any piece, no minimum.
  • If we cut it wrong — outside the ±½″ tolerance (±¾″ over 36″), wrong fabric, wrong build — remade free.
