Description

Build Your Seat Cushion

Every cushion this factory ships is, at some level, a seat cushion — but when people type the words, they mean the pad itself: the square or round that goes under you on a dining chair, a kitchen chair, a stool, a bench seat. The seat cushion aisle answers with universal 17- and 18-inch squares stuffed with fiber, and they fit the way free-size t-shirts fit — close enough to buy, never close enough to stop noticing.

This page is the hub for the seat-pad job in every room it comes up. The collections below branch to the chair types with their own build pages — dining, bar and counter stools, banquettes, nooks — and every build is the same answer: measure the deck, pick the fabric tier, get an instant factory-direct estimate. We are a custom shop, not a catalog, which is why your size is never out of stock.

Pricing — estimated starting at

Fabric tier Estimated price*
Cotton Linen $107
Tech Fabric $107
Premium Velvet $107

*One dining seat pad (18 × 18 × 3 in.): $45 make-base + 2.25 sq ft × rate ($27.37 per sq ft, 3" 50D foam + fabric, all fabrics one price). Rounds, thinner pads and bench runs price on their own area at the same formula — every seat, one calculator.

For comparison: a big-box four-pack of universal seat pads runs $25–$45 and averages a season and a half before the fiber flattens. No hidden markups: each part of the estimate maps to a size you can verify with a tape measure.

Popular Seat Cushion Sizes We Cut

Seat Typical size Notes
Dining / kitchen chair 16–20" squares, 2–3" Stock-friendly squares: 15 × 15, 20 × 20
Bar & counter stool 13–16" rounds and squares Bar stool cushions — swivel and backless builds
Banquette / nook bench 36–72 × 16–18 Banquette cushions, seat plus back
Bench seat 36–60 × 14–18 Bench cushions — the long-deck family
Swivel / glider seat 18–21 × 17–20 Glider cushions — the motion build
Patio dining seat 17–20" squares Dining chair cushions — the weatherproof tier

Common seat decks and their typical sizes (typical, always measure):

Seat thickness runs 2–3 inches on chairs and stools — the constraint is knee-to-table clearance, not comfort. Deep seats and benches take more where the frame allows.

Yours differs? That’s the point — we cut to your numbers.

How to Measure a Seat Cushion

  • Measure the seat deck, not the old pad — width and depth edge to edge to the nearest quarter inch; on curved or trapezoid decks record front and back widths separately.
  • Check how the seat is used: swivel stools and smooth decks want an exact-fit pad, because an exact cut is what stays put.
  • Thickness is a clearance decision — sit at the table with the old pad, note the knee room, and match what worked or fix what didn’t.
  • Full sets: measure one of each chair type, then count — matched sets leave the factory with the same loft and the same dye lot.

Fabric by the Seat It Serves

Custom seat cushions construction close-up — foam core, fabric and stitching detail

The fabric tier should match the seat’s real life: a formal dining chair that hosts holidays can carry velvet; the kitchen chair that seats breakfast every morning wants a wipe-clean woven; the banquette under daily traffic wants the toughest grade in the house. Every tier covers the same foam core — the honest comparison lives in our fabric guide, and outdoor seats carry the weatherproof pool.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell standard seat cushion sizes?

Yes — standard sizes too, in 3 clicks: seats cluster at 16–20 inch squares at 2–3 inches thick — stock squares like 18 × 18 and 20 × 20. Type the numbers into the customizer for the same instant factory-direct quote — nothing is warehoused, so no size is ever out of stock.

How thick should a seat cushion be?

2–3 inches on dining and kitchen seats — every inch lifts knees toward the tabletop, and thin seat frames have less room than people think. Bar and counter seats run 2 inches where the footrest is tight.

What is the difference between a seat cushion and a chair cushion?

The words overlap heavily. In our shop’s usage, a seat cushion is the pad alone — one deck, one rectangle or round — while a chair cushion usually means the chair’s full set: seat plus back, matched to a specific chair type. Same factory, same pricing formula, different piece count.

How do I keep a seat cushion from sliding on a smooth chair?

We don’t sew on ties or gripper undersides — our factory can’t supply them reliably, so we won’t sell you the promise. A pad cut to your confirmed numbers sits the deck without wandering, and for chairs that get dragged around, a thin non-slip rug pad trimmed slightly smaller than the cushion, laid flat underneath, is the honest fix.

What fabric works for kitchen seat cushions?

A wipe-clean woven — tech fabric or a canvas-grade — over a foam core. Kitchen seats take spills daily; fabric you can only dry-clean is the wrong tier for the room.

Can one order mix seat cushions for different chairs?

Yes — one order mixes dining seats, bar rounds and bench runs, each pad priced on its own area, and everything in the same fabric tier ships from one dye lot.

How long does a custom seat cushion take?

Your order starts at the cutting table: production is 4–7 business days, with rush production at 3–5 business days for a surcharge. Delivery is 3–6 weeks door to door. Typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks for the same build.

Is a Seat Cushion Right for You?

  • Match the fabric to the seat’s real life. A formal dining seat that hosts one dinner a week and a kitchen seat that takes spills daily want different cloth — wipe-clean wovens for the splash zone, soft indoor lines for the show pieces; the tier follows the duty.
  • Seat-plus-back sets start on the chair-type pages. This page prices the pad alone; a full build matched to a chair type — rocker sets, fan backs, wicker decks — is cut and priced on the page built for it, and ordering the pair from here gets you two seat pads.
  • Unsure about color? Email the factory before you order. Screens shift color, and kitchen light shifts it again — send a photo of where the cushion will live and we will tell you honestly how each fabric reads in that spot. The two-minute email is cheaper than a wrong-color guess.
  • Custom-cut means non-returnable. Custom-cut means non-returnable. A cushion cut to your numbers fits exactly one frame on earth — tolerances are published in writing (±½″, ±¾″ over 36″), and anything outside them against your confirmed numbers is remade free, whenever the error is found.

Made by the factory that ships them

  • Outdoor cushion factory for 10+ years — we cut, fill, and sew every order ourselves.
  • Every dimension you send is re-checked before a single yard of fabric is cut.
  • Made-to-order means any fabric, any piece, no minimum.
  • If we cut it wrong — outside the ±½″ tolerance (±¾″ over 36″), wrong fabric, wrong build — remade free.
