Description

One number, cut right

A round cushion needs one number — the diameter — and most people measure it wrong: across the rim instead of the seating circle, or eyeballed where the tape should cross center. That is why stock round pads swing on round seats and spin in use. Measured right, a round patio cushion is the cleanest custom order there is: one cut number, one thickness, done.

Where round seats actually live

Round outdoor seats cluster into four families: bistro sets (two-seat French-style tables, 16–19 inch circles), round dining chairs and fire-pit stools (18–24), hanging egg chairs (38–42 across the bowl), and papasan frames (44–52 across the dish). Each family has its own measuring trap — rims, bowls and dishes are all measured where you sit, not at their widest decoration point.

We cut every one of them to a single measured diameter plus thickness, in quick-dry foam for exposed patios or firm high-density for covered ones, across all 119 fabrics. The circle-specific walkthrough, including bar stools and swivel bases, is our round cushion measuring guide.

One number, measured right

The diameter rule: tape across the widest span of the seating surface, passing through center — read it twice at different angles and average if the seat is not perfectly true. On a chair with a rim or lip, measure the circle your body actually sits on, inside the rim; on a bowl-style seat, measure the flat of the bowl, not its outer flare.

Ovals send two numbers. An oval seat is a round that got stretched: maximum length across the long axis, maximum width across the short, both through center. We cut the oval to both — same order, two diameters instead of one, and the shape page for round and oval shapes covers the geometry in depth.

Thickness still matters. A round pad reads its loft at the edge: bistro and dining rounds sit well at 2–3 inches, stool rounds at 3, egg-chair and papasan builds at 4–6 where the bowl wants filling. Measure the old pad’s seam height if the seat felt right before it wore out.

Measure before you order

Measuring a round seat deck diameter with a tape through center

Measure first: three minutes with our measuring guide — width, depth, and thickness at the seam, written down per cushion, not per set. Those three numbers are the entire spec: every round patio cushions order we sew is cut to them and nothing else.

Related builds: square outdoor cushions takes the other common geometry, custom patio cushions is the hub, and exposed-patio rounds belong in the quick-dry waterproof build.

Fabric options & estimated pricing

Every fabric one price, on the same measured cut — so the choice below is about feel and weather, never about the bill. Solution-dyed acrylics for full sun, tech fabrics that shrug a shower, cotton linen for covered spots: all 119 live in the fabric menu inside the order flow.

Frequently asked questions

How do you measure a round cushion?

One diameter: tape across the widest span of the seating surface, through center, inside any rim or lip. Read it at two different angles to catch out-of-round seats, and send the average with your order. Thickness reads at the seam of the old pad — unsqueezed.

Can you make oval patio cushions?

Yes — an oval is two diameters: the long-axis length and the short-axis width, both through center. Send both numbers and the loft; the cut follows the seat’s real geometry. Egg-chair bowls that read as soft ovals are the most common two-diameter order we cut.

What diameter do papasan cushions need?

The dish, not the frame: measure the flat circle the pad actually sits in, usually 44–52 inches across on full-size papasans, and note the bowl depth if you want the pad to fill it — 4–6 inches of loft is typical. The old pad’s seam height is the best guide when it exists.

Round or square stool cushions — which is mine?

Measure both diagonals of the stool deck: equal means round (send the diameter), unequal means square or rectangular (send both sides). Swivel stools: measure the pad, not the base — the swivel mechanism sits below the seating circle and wants clearance.

How much do round patio cushions cost?

Custom pieces start at the USD 92 entry piece in the table above and scale with size and foam density — every fabric one price, final quote confirmed before anything is cut.

How long do they take to make and ship?

Every set is cut and sewn after you order — crafted in 4–7 business days, rush service 3–5 business days, then flat-rate shipping to your door; plan on 3–6 weeks door to door.
