Description

Build Your Glider Rocker Cushion

A glider slides forward and back on hidden tracks instead of rocking on arcs — quieter, safer in a nursery, and harder to re-cushion, because the motion hardware lives under the seat and the big brands change their cushion shapes every few years. When the brand stops listing parts for your model number, the tape measure becomes the only catalog.

We cut glider cushions to your numbers — seat, back, and the matching ottoman people forget to order — cut to clear the mechanism through the full glide. Nursery gliders, porch gliders and double glider benches are all the same job: platform measured, cushion cut, set matched in one fabric run.

Cotton Linen $212
Tech Fabric $212
Premium Velvet $212

*One glider set (20 × 20 seat + 20 × 24 back, 3 in.): $45 make-base + 6.1 sq ft × rate ($27.37 per sq ft, 3" 50D foam + fabric, all fabrics one price). Matching ottomans (~18 × 15 × 3) price on their own area at the same formula.

Custom glider rocker cushions, made to your measurements — tailored scene

For comparison: U.S. custom-configurator specialists’ 2026 listings quote glider sets from around $150 at entry — and most only reveal that price after a quote request. No hidden markups: each part of the estimate maps to a size you can verify with a tape measure.

Popular Glider Rocker Sizes We Cut

Piece Typical size Notes
Nursery glider seat 19–21 W × 19–21 D × 3–4" Thick attached-style back pads are the brand-specific part
Nursery glider back 20–22 W × 22–26 H, 3–4" loft Often one tall pad with arm wings
Matching ottoman 18–20 W × 15–16 D × 3" The piece people forget to order
Porch / outdoor glider 44–54 W × 18–20 D × 3" Two-seat scale; weather duty — start from outdoor cushions
Glider bench 48–60 L × 17–20 D × 3" Long-deck logic, measured to the frame

How to Measure a Glider Rocker Cushion

  • Measure the platform above the glide mechanism, not the old pad — motion hardware, springs and plywood decks shift under a worn cushion, and the platform is the truth.
  • Backs: measure the fabric cover flat, width and height, and note whether arms or wings wrap the sides — winged backs are outline pieces, not rectangles.
  • Check the moving parts before ordering — on a glider, the cushion edges must clear the mechanism under the seat through the full glide.
  • Order the ottoman in the same run if you want it — a matched set needs one dye lot, and ottomans ordered later will not match it.

Fabric for Nurseries and Porches

Custom glider rocker cushions construction close-up — foam core, fabric and stitching detail

Fabric comes in three tiers — cotton linen as the value pick, tech fabric for outdoor duty, premium velvet where softness leads. Porch gliders sit in semi-weather and should start from the outdoor fabric logic in our fabric guide. The nursery-flammability question we answer honestly: tell us your commercial or certified requirement first and we will confirm what we can document before you order.

Gliders We Build For

  • The nursery glider — seat plus tall back at 3–4 inches with the matching ottoman people forget to order; winged backs are outline pieces, not rectangles.
  • Discontinued models — brands change cushion shapes every few years and stop listing parts; a workshop that cuts to measurements rebuilds the set regardless of the model number.
  • The porch glider — 44–54 inch two-seat scale in weather duty — start from outdoor cushions.
  • The glider bench — 48–60 inch decks on long-deck logic, cut to the frame so the edges clear the mechanism through the full glide.

Dutailier Glider Cushion Replacements

Dutailier spent four decades as the premium nursery glider — the Canadian maple-frame rocker that secondhand listings still move in a day because “they don’t wear out.” The company closed in 2023. Its replacement-cushion program ended June 4, 2023, the warranty desk followed on July 7, and dutailier.com has since gone offline — there is no official channel left to order from, for any model, in any fabric. The model-by-model index — every numbered and named family, what the official program used to charge, and how to measure your set — is in our Dutailier replacement guide.

That leaves an installed base going back decades with three bad options: Etsy custom shops at $160–270 a set, universal glider pads that hang off the frame on ties (the best-reviewed one on Wayfair sits at 3.9 stars on fit complaints), or buying a whole second glider off Marketplace for less than a cushion set costs. We rebuild Dutailier sets the way we build everything else — your old cushion is the pattern, cut to your measurements, from $212 for a 20 × 20 seat plus 20 × 24 back in 3-inch foam. Cut to exact measurements means the set fits snug and stays put in the seat box, with nothing to tie, snap, or readjust.

Find the model number before anything else

Dutailier’s own guidance still works on every chair they made, and it takes a minute: lift the seat cushion and read the label — on wooden gliders it sits under the seat cushion or on the chair back near the seat; on ottomans it is glued to the wood under the cushion. That number tells you which family you own:

Product line Models covered Typical seat pad Typical back pad
Classic numbered wooden gliders 61B · 826 · 827 · 829 · 854 · 856 · 857 · 858 · 889 · 896 · 898 · 908 · 912 · 913 · 918 · 943 · 976 · 978 19–20" W × 19–20" D × 3–4" thick 20" W × 23–26" H tall back, often with arm wings
Named wooden gliders (2000s–2023) Adele (Adèle) · Alice · Anna · Maria · Rachel · Rose · Ruby · Victoria · Margot — each sold as Glider Chair, Multiposition-Lock-Recline, or Combo with ottoman; Technogel seats on Erie and Ontario; frames run 27" W overall 19–21" W × 19–21" D × 3–4" thick 20–22" W × 22–26" H
Grand scale Aspen Grand · Joanna Grand · Margot Grand rocking chair Wider seat box — measure the old pad, not the frame Measure the old pad
Upholstered swivel & recliners Lula · Kallia · Nolita · Classico; Avantglide recliners (Austin, Charlotte, Denver, Fresno, Orlando, Portland, San Francisco) Integrated upholstery — no loose cushions exist to replace —

Typical pad sizes are drawn from retailer listings for these frames; treat them as a starting check, not a pattern. The old cushion, measured flat seam-to-seam, is the pattern.

What the official program used to charge

The cushion-set SKU was the chair number plus a fabric code — set 827100 fit chair 827, 908100 fit chair 908, and so on. If your label matches a row below, that chair was officially cushion-replaceable in the final years:

Chair number Official replacement set Official price (2020, ended)
827 · 829 · 854 · 856 · 889 · 896 · 898 · 908 · 912 · 913 · 918 · 976 · 978 Chair cushion set 827100 / 829100 / 854100 / 856100 / 889120 / 896100 / 898100 / 908100 / 912100 / 913100 / 918100 / 976100 / 978100 $229 CAD per chair set
Modern named gliders Chair cushion set 10870 / 11160 $229 CAD per chair set
Ottomans Ottoman cushion 614190 / 901190 / 960190 $99 CAD each

Every one of those SKUs is discontinued; prices are for reference only. Our replacement path is measurement-based, so a missing or illegible label costs you nothing — the old pad’s numbers are the order form.

Dutailier replacement questions

How do I confirm which Dutailier model I have?

Lift the seat cushion and look for the stitched or glued label underneath it; on chairs where the seat pad has no label, check the chair back down near the seat rail. Ottomans carry theirs on the wood under the cushion. The number there (827, 908, 0393, 2646…) is the model. If the label is gone, you do not need it — measure the old cushion flat, seam to seam, and we cut to those numbers regardless of the model on the frame.

Do you match the original cushion dimensions exactly?

Yes — you measure, we cut to those numbers. Lay the old pad flat on a table and measure width corner to corner, depth front to back, and thickness seam to seam with the pad standing on edge; the frame always runs larger, so never measure the chair. Because the set is cut to the exact seat box, it fits snug and stays put without ties or hardware — the same reason the originals never slid. Tall backs and arm wings are outline pieces, not rectangles; send a photo and we confirm the shape before cutting.

How long does a Dutailier replacement set take?

The same window as every set we build: production runs 4–7 business days (rush at 3–5 for a surcharge), with delivery in 3–6 weeks door to door, shipped direct from our own workshop.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell standard glider cushion sizes?

Yes — standard sizes too, in 3 clicks: nursery glider seats cluster at 19–21 inch squares with 20–22 inch backs — type those numbers into the customizer for the same instant factory-direct quote. Made to order means never out of stock, and the model number you do not need is the point.

Can I replace cushions for a discontinued glider?

Yes — that is the normal path, not the exception: glider brands change cushion shapes every few years and stop listing parts for older models. A workshop that cuts to measurements instead of model numbers rebuilds the set regardless.

What is the difference between glider and rocking chair cushions?

The motion: a rocker lifts through an arc, a glider slides flat on its track — and a glider’s cushions must also clear the mechanism under the seat. The rocking-specific build is on our rocking chair page; replacing a worn rocker set rather than building new starts on the replacement rocking chair cushions page.

What fabric is best for a nursery glider?

Easy-care and colorfast above all — Tech Fabric wipes clean of the inevitable; Cotton Linen takes gentle washing; Premium Velvet holds up to claws. If you need documented flammability specs for a commercial nursery, tell us first and we will confirm what we can certify before you order.

Can I get a matching ottoman cushion?

Yes — ottomans (~18 × 15 × 3) price on their own area at the same formula. Order it in the same run as the set: a matched set needs one dye lot, and later orders will not match it.

How long does a custom glider set take?

Your order starts the clock at the cutting table: production runs 4–7 business days, with rush production at 3–5 business days for a surcharge. Delivery is 3–6 weeks door to door. Typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks for the same build, and we ship direct from our own workshop.

Is a Glider Cushion Right for You?

  • The model number will not save you. Glider mechanisms differ bracket by bracket even within one brand’s years — cushions are cut to the seat box and back rail you measure, not to the name on the tag, so a discontinued model is no obstacle and a current one is no shortcut.
  • Nursery certification requirements come first. If your registry, insurer or facility needs documented flammability or certified fabrics, say so before ordering — we confirm in writing what we can document rather than surprise you after the shower.
  • Unsure about color? Email the factory before you order. Screens shift color, and nursery light shifts it again — send a photo of where the cushion will live and we will tell you honestly how each fabric reads in that spot. The two-minute email is cheaper than a wrong-color guess.
  • Custom-cut means non-returnable. Custom-cut means non-returnable. A cushion cut to your numbers fits exactly one frame on earth — tolerances are published in writing (±½″, ±¾″ over 36″), and anything outside them against your confirmed numbers is remade free, whenever the error is found.

Made by the factory that ships them

  • Outdoor cushion factory for 10+ years — we cut, fill, and sew every order ourselves.
  • Every dimension you send is re-checked before a single yard of fabric is cut.
  • Made-to-order means any fabric, any piece, no minimum.
  • If we cut it wrong — outside the ±½″ tolerance (±¾″ over 36″), wrong fabric, wrong build — remade free.
