The NÄMMARÖ line at a glance
NÄMMARÖ is IKEA’s current modular outdoor line – acacia frames on a square grid, sold as armchairs, sofas, corner sets and chaises that reconfigure at will. It is also the successor to the retired APPLARO, which means the installed base of IKEA outdoor furniture is busy migrating to these measurements. The geometry is unusually clean: a 19 5/8 x 19 5/8 armchair seat, modular seat sections at 24 3/4 and 31 7/8 squares, and backrests in two sizes.
The official pad program matches the grid exactly – the 19 5/8 chair pad drops onto the armchair with zero overhang. When your colorway retires, we cut to the same numbers in solution-dyed acrylic over 50D-plus foam.
Decimal entries to the quarter inch, live estimate. The weekly build list runs from single seats and backs through complete matched sets, with split seat blocks, trim-clearing notched corners, and 2-to-8-inch thickness tiers in between — the per-square-foot formula applies uniformly, so no shape carries a fee.
A different series, or a piece the chart skips? Start from any shape → — the cut follows your numbers.
Three squares and two backs: ordering by module, not by furniture
NÄMMARÖ replaces the furniture-shaped question, what sofa do you have, with an arithmetic one: which squares, and how many. The system is built from three seat footprints, the 19 5/8 square that drops onto the armchair, the 24 3/4 square of the standard seat section, and the 31 7/8 square of the large section. A corner grouping, a straight sofa and a deep lounge can all be described entirely by counts of those three squares. When you request replacement pads, that count is the useful thing to send, because two owners with the same catalog photo may have reconfigured their frames differently over the years. Three square sizes and two back sizes describe every set the system has ever produced.
Backs come in exactly two sizes, 23 5/8 wide by 22 1/4 deep and 30 3/8 wide by 22 deep, and each back pairs with the seat square one size class up from it: the narrower back belongs over the standard seat, the wider over the large. Mixed orders should keep those pairings intact, because a back narrower than its seat leaves a visible ledge of frame, and a back wider than its seat overhangs into the neighboring position. Two sizes, one rule, no exceptions in the catalog.
Measuring your own set takes one tape and ten minutes. For every distinct square, measure width and depth seam to seam, count how many positions use it, and note whether each back is the smaller or larger pattern. Assembled pieces like the loveseat and the 3-seat sofa are simply multiples of these modules in the official system, so module numbers, not furniture names, are what any cutter works from. Owners of the retired predecessor line should expect no carry-over: similar honey-toned acacia, different grid, which is why the ten minutes with the tape is never wasted.
Pricing — estimated starting at
| Piece | 35D Standard | 50D Firm | 65D Extra Firm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Armchair pad (19 5/8 x 19 5/8) | $125 | $127 | $135 |

| Backrest (23 5/8 x 22 1/4) | $154 | $157 | $168 |
Estimates shown — $45 make-base + area at per-sq-ft rates, cut to order. The final quote gets your sign-off before production. Each cover closes with a zipper and removes for washing.
For scale: configurator-based U.S. custom shops listed made-to-order cushions in the 16×16-through-24×24 range near $71–$119 before shipping in 2026 — figures most customers reach only by requesting a quote. Here, every element of the estimate traces back to a size your tape measure can confirm.

Sources are official IKEA records: live pages, archived values, or aftermarket spec tables that survived. All sizes in inches; metric-derived fractions such as 22 7/8 and 23 5/8 are expected — the cut follows the fraction, not the rounded number.
Measure before you order

Three minutes with a tape measure prevents the classic IKEA mistake — ordering rounded inch sizes for metric fractions. Measure seam to seam, every distinct block, to the nearest quarter inch per our measuring guide; the chart above is matched against your numbers before anything is cut.
Fabric options
Fabric comes in three families — cotton linen for everyday duty, tech fabric for outdoor duty, premium velvet where softness leads — every fabric, one price. For outdoor pieces: solution-dyed acrylic covers over 50D-plus foam.

Is your set really NÄMMARÖ?
NÄMMARÖ is the square-framed acacia line – arms and backs on the same grid as the seats, honey-toned stain, no curves anywhere (the design story says the square is the whole cost trick). APPLARO owners: your line is retired, and while the frame look is similar, the measurements differ – measure your own seat before ordering anything, or send us the numbers and we cut to them. Full method: our three-step measuring guide.

Frequently asked questions
The armchair seat is 19 5/8 x 19 5/8 inches – matched exactly by the official 19 5/8 chair pad. Modular sections run 24 3/4 and 31 7/8 squares with backrests at 23 5/8 x 22 1/4 (and a 30 3/8 x 22 large). All numbers in the chart above.
No – NÄMMARÖ is the successor line, and the retired APPLARO frames have their own measurements. APPLARO’s official pages are gone, so measure your seat seam to seam and order to your numbers; NÄMMARÖ owners can order straight off this chart.
Yes – the line is built on repeating square modules, so cushions are ordered per module (seat sections, backrests, armchair pads). Order the full set in one run so fabric lots match across every module in the new configuration.
Spot cleaning covers most days — covers unzip and remove for a full wash when due. Tech Fabric leads on ease: its waterproof face wipes clean. For Cotton Linen, spot clean and iron creases from the back at low heat. Velvet allows dry cleaning or a soft hand wash, with the pile brushed flat as it dries; Chenille is spot-clean territory — never work the tufts with a brush. See each of the 119 fabrics enlarged in the configurator first.
The clock begins at the cutting table, not before: a 4-7 business-day make-and-ship window — figure 4–7 business days of crafting standard, or 3–5 on the rush line, plus shipping.
