Build Your 50 x 21 Cushion
Fifty by twenty-one is bench country. The two-seater garden bench, the porch swing, the wide entry bench — and the one-piece pad of a full-size Adirondack chair, which runs 50–53 inches along its contour. Fifty inches is also where stock sizing quietly gives up: retail bench pads cluster at 48 and 52 inches, and a 21-inch depth is rarer still, so a 50 x 21 is almost always a made-to-measure order. Made to measure is our whole business — we cut to your number.
Every 50 x 21 outdoor cushion is cut to the measurements you send — length, depth, thickness. Three inches suits a bench you actually sit on; 2–2.5 keeps a swing at its designed height. Fabric families start with Cotton Linen, a durable everyday weave with no pilling, shrinking, or fading; Tech Fabric, the waterproof, wipe-clean leather-like workhorse that earns its keep on benches that live outdoors; and Premium Velvet for indoor window seats — the same tiers as our full-size lines. Covers close with a zipper — they unzip to remove and wash, keeping long pads fresh.

Pricing — estimated starting at
| Foam density | Estimated price* |
|---|---|
| 35D foam | $209 |
| 50D foam | $215 |
| 65D foam | $223 |
For comparison: big-box bench pads in the 48–52 inch band list at roughly $60–$120 — in whatever depth and thickness the factory chose, in fabrics you did not. A 50 x 21 cut to your bench, in the fabric you picked, starts at $189 — and the pricing math is right on the page, every dollar traceable to a dimension you can measure.
Where a 50 x 21 actually lands
| Furniture | Typical deck | Advice at this size |
|---|---|---|
| Two-seat garden bench | 48–55″ seat boards | 50 is the mid-range standard; 3″ default, 4″ for benches you linger on |
| Porch swing | 48–52″ slat seats | 2.5–3″; thick foam fights the motion, ties or non-slip backing keep the pad seated |
| Full-size Adirondack chair | 50–53″ x 20–22″ one-piece pads | Measure along the contour, not the flat — the angled back adds inches a flat rule misses |
| Window seat / entry bench | built to the wall | 3–4″; send the deck width between trim, not the wall-to-wall guess |
No factory-original cushion in our measurement library lands at this exact rectangle yet — brand-name patio lines catalogue their bench pads by series, and a 21-inch depth with a 50-inch length is the shape that slips between the stock numbers. Measure your old pad flat (edge to edge, seam to seam), or measure the bench between the arm uprights and send us the numbers. We cut to whatever you measured — the quarter inch included — in any fabric, any thickness, one piece or a full set.
Neighbours worth knowing: the rectangles below fifty inches live on single seats — see the 22 x 24 page and the 24 x 26 page, the mid lounge square at the 23 x 23 — and the biggest squares we document are the 28 x 28 and 30 x 30 pages. Any of them can be ordered longer or deeper; the cutting table does not know the difference between a stock number and your number.
Mismatch with the chart? The chart loses — your measurements win.
Measuring tips for a 50 x 21
- With the old pad on a flat surface, take length end-to-end, depth front-to-back, and thickness along the seam line. Never measure a long pad while it is bowed or squeezed.
- No old pad? Measure the bench between the arm uprights, then the front-to-back distance from the back upright to the seat edge — send the raw numbers rather than rounding.
- On an Adirondack, run the tape along the seat contour from backrest base to knee break — the flat chord reads an inch or two short of the pad the chair actually takes.
- Photograph the label under the frame first — a model number can match you to a documented series chart in seconds.

Fabrics that suit a 50 x 21
Long pads take the same fabric families as every other size we cut. Benches that live outdoors gravitate to Tech Fabric — waterproof and wipe-clean, which matters on a bench that doubles as a picnic seat. Cotton Linen suits covered porches and indoor entry benches, and Premium Velvet takes window seats and formal hallway benches. Because the footprint is large, fabric choice feels like a money decision here — but every fabric in the 119 lineup prices identically, so choose on lifestyle, not budget. The full comparison is in the outdoor fabric guide.

Long pads, one seam of truth
Foam thickness for a 50 x 21
Three inches is the working default for a bench you actually sit on; four for benches you linger on; porch swings do better at 2–2.5 — thick foam fights the motion and lifts the sitter past a comfortable arc.
Long pads, one seam of truth
A fifty-inch pad is four times the top surface of a dining-chair square, and length is where cheap construction shows first: foam spliced from offcuts, covers cut on the cross-grain, ties set where the frame has no slat. We cut long pads from full-width foam — no splices — and sew covers with the grain running the length of the bench, because a pad that shrinks an inch at fifty has visibly shrunk. If the bench lives outdoors, pair the pad with the custom bench cushions line or, on a classic Adirondack frame, the Adirondack cushions line — both cut to the same numbers you enter here.

A boundary we hold: seat cushions are comfort products, not medical devices. Firm high-density foam can feel supportive, but nothing on this page diagnoses, treats, or prevents any condition — for pressure, circulation, or post-surgery seating questions, the specification belongs to a clinician, and we will cut to whatever they specify.
Ready when you are. Enter your measurements, pick your fabric and your finishing — every dimension comes back to you for confirmation before we cut. One cushion or a whole set, from the factory that ships them. Cut to within ½ inch of your confirmed numbers (¾ inch beyond 36) — outside tolerance, remade free.
