The POLYWOOD Cushion Gap, Closed by Custom Cutting

POLYWOOD builds outdoor furniture from HDPE lumber — recycled plastic that shrugs off rain, salt and sun for decades. The frames outlast their cushions by a wide margin, and many pieces ship frame-only or with thin starter pads that flatten within two seasons. So the furniture survives while the cushion gives up: the pad goes thin, the cover fades, the corners round off — and the frame keeps going exactly as it did on day one.

We are a custom cushion factory, not a parts desk, and POLYWOOD does not publish a cushion sizing chart — so there is nothing to look up and nothing to guess. Every order is cut to the measurements you take off your own frame — seat, back, or a full set — whether the original pad is gone, flattened, or was never there at all. Two tape-measure numbers route you into the same production floor at the same $45 make-base, with the same ±½″ tolerance we hold on every measured chart in the library.

POLYWOOD Adirondack Chair Cushions

The signature chair runs a contoured seat and a fan or slatted back that generic pads rarely match — the arms curve, the seat dips, and a stock rectangle shows gaps at every edge. We cut one-piece and seat-plus-back sets to your exact width, depth and back height, hinge line placed where your chair actually folds. Built for the Classic Adirondack, the ottoman version, and the South Beach lines alike — the frame stays in the family for decades, so a measured pad that fits once keeps fitting through every reorder. Custom cut for your Adirondack chair.

POLYWOOD Chaise Lounge Cushions

The long pads take the most abuse on any patio: full sun across the backrest, full weight on the hinge, and a frame that will not rot while the cushion slowly gives up. We build single-piece chaise pads and hinged seat-and-back sets to your measurements, in high-density foam that keeps its height season after season instead of dishing under the shoulders. Works across POLYWOOD chaise and double-chaise frames — send the hinge line and we place it where your frame bends. Custom chaise lounge cushions.

POLYWOOD Rocking Chair Cushions

A rocker needs a pad that stays put without fighting the motion — no bunching at the crest, no sliding off the pitch of the seat, no riding up the back on every swing. We cut seat and back pads to your rocker’s own dimensions so the cushion moves with the chair, not against it. The same cutting covers POLYWOOD gliders and swing frames, which share the same dimensional-stability advantage as the rest of the line. Custom rocking chair cushions.

POLYWOOD Eastport Dining Chair Cushions

Eastport is the dining line we get asked about most: a slim frame with a rounded seat that eats stock dining pads for breakfast — the squares gap at the corners and slide with every sit-down. We cut seat pads to the exact square, and full seat-and-back sets for the high-back chairs, so a set of four or six looks like it came with the table. Measured, not guessed, at the same tolerance as every chart in the replacement library. See custom dining chair cushions.

Measuring Your POLYWOOD Frame — and Choosing What Goes Inside

POLYWOOD frames are dimensionally stable — HDPE does not swell, twist or rot like wood — which makes them the easiest frames in our library to measure for. Pull the old pad, or lay a tape on the bare deck: width × depth × thickness for each piece, separate numbers for seat and back, and note the thickness you want rather than the thickness you had. If the label is gone, the series name usually sits embossed under the seat or on the receipt trail — but for the custom route the name is optional. The numbers are the spec.

Inside the pad: seats built at 60D high-density foam, backs at 50D — the pairing that survives daily outdoor use without going board-hard. Thickness is a table-height decision as much as a comfort one: add two inches and check the dining chair still slides under the table before you commit. Outside: solution-dyed outdoor fabrics that hold their color under UV; Tech Fabric if the set lives in open weather, Cotton Linen under a covered porch. The same cutting runs across every POLYWOOD series from Eastport to Vineyard to Lakeside — dining, deep seating, rockers and gliders alike. The full walkthrough lives in the POLYWOOD cushions guide.

Frequently asked questions

The frames are — HDPE lumber is fully weatherproof, which is the brand’s whole point. For pads, fabric decides: Tech Fabric builds are waterproof and wipe clean after a spill or a storm, while solution-dyed woven fabrics shed rain but breathe, so they trade a little weather armor for a softer hand. Either way the foam drains and dries fast once the sky clears, and every cover unzips for a full wash when one is due.

The frames can stay out year-round — that is what they were engineered for. Cushions last far longer under cover or in a storage box between uses, because UV and standing water are what age fabric and foam, not the frame. If the set lives uncovered, pick Tech Fabric, give the pads a shake after heavy rain, and stand them on edge so water never pools against a seam.

Frames: hose and mild soap — HDPE takes it without complaint, and the color runs through the lumber so there is no coating to scratch. Cushions: wipe Tech Fabric with a damp cloth; spot-clean woven fabrics with mild soap and water; unzip any cover for a full wash when the season demands it. Let foam air-dry flat before zipping the cover back on, and never machine-dry the fill.

Any of them. Adirondack, chaise, rocking and Eastport dining pads are the requests we see most; the same custom route covers Vineyard, Lakeside, Prescott, Chesapeake, Nautical, Long Beach, Portside, Edge and the glider frames. Because POLYWOOD publishes no cushion chart, every build runs off your measurements — the numbers are the spec, and the series name is just a label.

Measure the frame, not the old pad — POLYWOOD lumber holds its dimensions, so the tape reads true year after year. Take width and depth at the widest points the cushion will sit in, plus the thickness you want for seating height, and send all three numbers with your order. We cut to your measurements within ±½ inch (±¾ inch beyond 36 inches), and every order is confirmed against your numbers before cutting.

All 119 library fabrics are outdoor-rated, so the choice comes down to sun and feel: solution-dyed woven acrylics hold color on chaise and rocking spots that take all-day exposure, while softer weaves suit covered dining sets. Foam follows use — around 60D for seats you sit on daily, 50D for backrests, and every cover unzips for washing.

Cut and sewn only after you order — production runs 4-7 business days, with a 3-5 day rush available for most fabrics, then everything ships direct from our workshop. One cushion or a full Eastport set, each piece is cut from your confirmed measurements in the same fabric run.
