Description

Briarwood is Woodard’s hand-forged wrought-iron line — high-back dining, barrel chairs, spring-base lounges — with no published pad chart. Here’s how to confirm yours and order cushions cut to your own three measurements.

The Briarwood line at a glance

Briarwood is the wrought-iron side of the Woodard catalog: hand-forged scroll work on heavy frames, black or painted finishes, running high-back dining chairs, barrel chairs, spring-base lounges and gliders. The hand-forging is the tell — each scroll reads slightly different, and the frame weight sits a class above cast lines.

So we don’t guess. Confirm the line with the cues below, measure the old pad or the seat deck, and we cut Briarwood replacement cushions to your figures in any of 119 fabrics — built by the workshop that ships them.

Check three things: (1) the metal — hand-forged scroll work and a frame heavy enough that one chair needs both hands; (2) the finish — black or painted wrought iron, not the smoother cast-aluminum lines; (3) the dealer tag or receipt naming Briarwood. Our full measuring guide walks you through it.

How to tell you have the Briarwood

Start with the weight: wrought iron reads heavy in the hand and the scroll work shows forging marks — no two exactly alike. That is the Briarwood signature against the cast-aluminum Cortland class.

Lean on the paper: Woodard sells through dealers, and invoices or receipts name the line. Tag gone? The forging itself narrows the side of the catalog.

Don’t confuse it with: Cortland (cast aluminum, 4Z-parts, charted) and the Russell Woodard vintage era (1950s–60s sculpted iron and spun fiberglass, the collector class).

Era matters: wrought-iron high-backs run tall pads and one-piece dining profiles that stock charts don’t carry — measure-first is the accurate route, exactly as it is across the catalog.

Why there is no official Briarwood size chart

Woodard charts Cortland per model; Briarwood runs uncharted — the landscape:

What Status Our route
Briarwood cushion dimensions no published chart measure-first — three numbers, one photo
Cortland parts table (sibling line) published per model the model-keyed reference for the cast side
Market generic high-back pads approximate classes third-party generic, not made for Briarwood

No chart exists for the wrought-iron side, so we leave one out on purpose: measure your own piece and we cut to your numbers — high-back pads measured at full height, ties positioned to your frame rails.

Reading the chart: Rows describe the landscape. The hand-forged frame and dealer paper are the deciding evidence.
Independent workshop: CushionMill is not affiliated with Woodard. Collection names are used to identify the frame you own — every cushion is cut to your measurements, not sold as an official Woodard part.

Cast vs. wrought uncertain? Send a photo of the scroll work — forging marks read instantly.

Measure before you order

Measure first: three minutes with our measuring guide — width, depth, and thickness at the seam, per cushion, high backs measured to their full height. Every Briarwood cushion we sew is cut to your figures.

The charted cast-aluminum sibling is Cortland; the full catalog background is on the Woodard page.

Fabric options & estimated pricing

Same measured cut, every fabric one price. Cotton linen is the durable everyday pick; tech fabric is water-resistant and wipes clean; premium velvet delivers the high-end look and stands up to cat claws. For full weather duty the solution-dyed acrylic route is the one that shrugs off seasons.

What you order What we need from you How pricing works
Single cushion Three numbers: width × depth × thickness at the seam Set by size and foam density — every fabric one price
Complete piece (seat + back) Three numbers per cushion block Priced per piece — order any count, no minimums
Full Briarwood set A count of pieces, piece by piece Batched in the configurator — quote confirmed before anything is cut

Custom cushions are estimated from $169 per ottoman-class pad (high-back one-piece dining pads from $279) and scale with size and foam density (35D to 65D) — every fabric one price, the final quote settled at checkout, nothing cut before your numbers are confirmed. Covers close with a zippered closure (covers remove for washing).

Frequently asked questions

Does Woodard still sell Briarwood cushions?

Not as a charted program — Cortland carries the parts table on the cast side; Briarwood runs measure-first through specialists and custom shops. We cut to your measurements.

Will universal cushions fit a Woodard Briarwood piece?

Poorly — tall high-back dining pads and spring-base lounge profiles match no stock chart. Measured replacements sit the way the originals did.

How do I confirm my set is really Briarwood?

Hand-forged scroll work with forging marks, frame weight in the wrought class, and dealer paper where it survives.

Can you make cushions without official specs?

Yes — that is our normal route for uncharted lines. You measure width, depth, and thickness per cushion; we re-verify the numbers against the piece count before cutting and sew to your figures.

How much do Briarwood replacement cushions cost?

Custom pieces are estimated from $169 per typical piece and scale with size and foam density (35D to 65D) — every fabric one price, final quote confirmed before anything is cut.

How long do they take to make and ship?

Every set is cut and sewn after you order — crafted in 4–7 business days, rush service 3–5 business days, then flat-rate shipping to your door; plan on 3–6 weeks door to door.

A fresh rebuild on the Briarwood frame

Woven wicker bodies outlive their foam by years. A terracotta rebuild on the rolled-arm Briarwood loveseat is the usual refresh: firm new pads on the same familiar frame.
