20" x 24" Outdoor Cushions — Custom Made to Your Exact Numbers

20 x 24 outdoor cushions cut from your numbers — width, depth, thickness, foam density, fabric — priced live as you type. Twenty by twenty-four is the gap size the shelf skips between the 20 x 20 and 24 x 24 standards, and custom cutting exists precisely so a two-inch mismatch stops deciding how your furniture sits.

Build Your 20 × 24 Cushion

Retail assortments jump from 20 x 20 straight to 24 x 24, so a frame cut for 20 x 24 gets a pad that either gaps at the edges or bunches in the corners — every season, until the frame gives up before the foam does. Twenty-by-twenty-four is real furniture geometry: it’s the seat of deeper dining chairs, the ottoman pad, the larger bistro pad. When the shelf doesn’t make it, the tape measure and a cutting table do.

What you’re ordering is the same cushion our customizer builds for any rectangle: your width, depth, and thickness; foam in 35D, 50D, 60D, or 65D; any of 119 fabrics with outdoor-rated options throughout; sewn in our own workshop to a quarter-inch tolerance. The 20 x 24 anchor on this page simply means the numbers below are already honest for this footprint — no quote form, no email chain, no rounding your frame into somebody else’s size chart.

Not exactly 20 x 24? Type your numbers — decimals welcome. The customizer prices any rectangle (and T-cushions, rounds, and L-shapes) in the same four steps. This page simply anchors the honest pricing for one common gap size.

Pricing — estimated starting at

Foam densityEstimated price*
35D foam$139
50D foam$143
65D foam$149

*One cushion, 20 × 24 in. (3.33 sq ft top surface) at 4 in. thick: $45 cutting + foam by density + $7.43/sq ft fabric across all 119 options. Thickness moves the number honestly — 3 in. in 50D lands at $136, 5 in. at $148 — and the customizer shows your exact figure live.

As a yardstick: U.S. custom-cushion specialists quote comparable rectangles in the same territory once fabric grade enters — the difference is we publish the arithmetic instead of routing you through a quote form.

The one-inch problem: 20 x 24 in a 20 x 20 world. Your tape doesn’t care that the shelf rounds to even squares — a 24-inch-deep seat with a 20-inch-wide pad, or the transpose, is factory geometry for deeper dining chairs and ottomans alike (our measured library shows the 24 × 20 ottoman above). When the frame says 20 x 24, the pad that says 20 x 20 gapes, bunches, or both.

How to measure a 20 x 24 cushion

Tape measures laid along a 20 x 24 cushion

Flatten the old cushion out and read three numbers: edge-to-edge width, edge-to-edge depth, and thickness bottom-to-top with the foam at rest. Confirm orientation before ordering — 20 wide by 24 deep and 24 wide by 20 deep price identically, but they are not interchangeable on the frame. Photograph the pad beside the tape; ±½″ is our tolerance and the remake is free if we miss it.

Fabric Options at 20 x 24

A 20 x 24 pad usually lives on a fully exposed seat or an ottoman that catches feet, drinks, and sun. Tech Fabric is the workhorse answer: waterproof, wipe-clean, unfazed by pool chemistry. Cotton Linen belongs under cover; Premium Velvet belongs indoors. For buyers comparing against Sunbrella-grade performance tiers, the honest tier-by-tier comparison — including what solution-dyeing actually buys in fade life — is in the outdoor fabric guide.

Rare sizes, straight answers

Thickness and density at 20 x 24

Twenty-by-twenty-four is seat-and-ottoman geometry. Four inches is the standard at this footprint — firm enough for dining posture, deep enough for lounge duty; five restores comfort on an ottoman that gets feet. Below 3 inches, a pad this size dishes between the seams long before the cover wears.

Density earns its price with use, not width: 35D holds up for seasonal patios; 50D is the honest minimum for daily seating; 60D earns its price on the ottoman that doubles as the favorite chair. (Our full sizing and density reasoning lives in the cushion size calculator guide.)

Two pads or one order of two?

Chairs that take a pair — seat plus back, or a matched pair of chairs — are cheaper per set than the shelf implies, because 20 x 24 is small-piece territory: two 50D pads at 4 inches land under $290, and the customizer keeps the running total as you add pieces. Set builders measure every piece anyway; “matching” chairs differ by half an inch more often than not, and the tolerance covers exactly that gap.

When 20 x 24 means covers, not foam

Plenty of 20 x 24 searches end at slipcovers — the foam still stands up but the fabric gave out, and that job is smaller than a rebuild. We sew replacement covers to your seam-to-seam measurements in the same 119-fabric range, with zippers where the original had them. If the old cover still exists, mail it to us and we pattern from it directly — no measuring tape required. The honest cut-off: press the seat hard and if your hand does not feel the deck through the foam, covers alone will do; if it bottoms out, replace the foam in the same order and be done once.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I find 20 x 24 outdoor cushions in stores?

Because shelf programs step in even squares — 18, 20, 24 — and 20 x 24 falls in the gap. It’s real factory geometry (deeper dining seats, ottomans), which is why it shows up in measured furniture libraries but not on the shelf. Custom cutting closes the gap with your exact numbers.

Can I order 20.5 x 24 instead?

Yes — decimals are welcome. 20 x 24 is this page’s anchor because it’s the common gap size, but the customizer prices any rectangle at the same four steps, and the tolerance is ±½″.

Is 20 x 24 the same as 24 x 20?

The price is identical; the fit is not. Width-by-depth orientation has to match the frame — measure the old pad flat and keep the order of the numbers as measured.

What thickness should I pick at this size?

Four inches standard — dining posture holds, lounge depth survives. Three works under a covered seat; five turns an ottoman into the favorite seat. Below three, a pad this footprint dishes early.

Which fabric for full sun?

Tech Fabric for waterproof wipe-clean duty; solution-dyed weaves for maximum fade life. Both sit in the outdoor range of the 119, all at one flat rate per square foot.

Do the covers come off for washing?

Yes — every cover unzips. On an outdoor pad, that’s the feature that decides whether a spill is a moment or a season.

How long do custom 20 x 24 cushions take?

Standard builds leave the workshop in 4–7 days, rush builds in 3–5, with shipping typically 3–6 weeks. Your confirmation carries the exact dates.

Should I order spare cushions in the same fabric?

It’s a popular move at this size — two close colorways, one set in service, one ready. The flat fabric rate means the second set prices the same as the first.
