This End Up Cushion Covers — the re-cover vs rebuild decision (2026)

The honest answer to “where do I buy new This End Up covers?”: the maker sells cushions and covers as part of complete sets, and owner forums echo the frustration — one thread puts it flatly: “The company that sold the furniture doesn’t sell cushions separately (!)”. Here’s what actually works instead.

What This End Up actually sells — and what it doesn’t

This End Up builds cedar crate furniture — boxy hardwood frames with thick, square cushion blocks that drop into the crate. The maker’s published parts list (SKUs CFF-01001 through CFF-05018) sells complete cushions and complete sets: a Classic seat cushion, a Classic back cushion, full sofa and loveseat sets. What it doesn’t sell, at any price, is the cover alone. Covers ship attached to their sets — which is why the parts hunt so often dead-ends in a forum thread.

Open the Customizer

What that leaves you: (1) buy the official replacement cushion (a whole new block, cover included) at published prices; (2) take your old blocks to a local upholsterer for re-covering; (3) have the whole cushion rebuilt — new foam, new cover, your dimensions. The rest of this page is about choosing between those three honestly.

Re-cover or rebuild — reading your own cushions first

The decision hides inside the foam, not the fabric. A crate-style Classic seat is a 24 × 29 × 6-inch block; when the cover looks tired, the foam underneath is usually worse — dished where decades of sitting compressed it. Re-covering old foam wraps a new skin around the sag. Rebuilding replaces both.

Test yours before choosing: press the seat flat with your palm and release. Foam that springs back in a second still has life and re-covering is reasonable. Foam that stays dished, or crumbles at an edge, is done — no cover will fix it. Indoor living-room sets typically fail by compression; porch sets fail by fabric first (fade, damp summers) with the foam not far behind.

Price the honest comparison. The official Classic seat cushion publishes at $83, the back at $78 — real numbers, but original spec only, in the maker’s fabrics. A local upholsterer’s re-cover runs labor plus fabric and leaves your old foam in service. A full rebuild here starts around the same neighborhood per piece (estimated tiers on the brand page chart) with 119 fabric choices and your choice of 45-65D foam — the whole block renewed, not re-dressed.

One thing we don’t do, stated plainly: we don’t sell covers alone either. Covers aren’t sold separately here — every order is a complete cushion, cut and sewn to your measured outline. If your foam passes the palm test, a local upholsterer is the right stop; if it doesn’t, you’re in the right place.

Official This End Up cushion figures as published by the maker — the numbers to measure against before any re-cover or rebuild.

Source: the maker’s published parts list, reproduced on our This End Up brand page with the full SKU table including sofa sets and arm cushions.
Two spec families: Classic (6-inch blocks) and Woods End (7-inch seats). Measure your blocks before ordering anything — the two families look identical from across the room.

Piece not listed — arm cushions, sofa modules, a retired line? The full official table is on the brand page, and anything unlisted we cut to your measured outline.

Measure before you order

Three numbers per block: width, depth, thickness — measured edge to edge on the old cushion, seams included, not the crate frame. Backs add height. Bench runs (37 and 55 inches) want two measurements along the length to catch bowing. Guided walkthroughs here.

Frequently asked questions

Does This End Up sell replacement covers separately?

No. The maker’s parts list sells complete cushions and complete sets — a seat cushion, a back cushion, sofa and loveseat sets — with covers attached. There is no cover-only SKU. That gap is a standing complaint in owner threads; the practical responses are an official replacement cushion, a local re-cover, or a full rebuild.

Can I just re-cover my old This End Up cushions?

Sometimes, yes — if the foam still passes the palm test (press flat, release, and it springs back within a second). A local upholsterer can re-cover sound blocks in your own fabric. Tired or dished foam won’t improve under a new skin, though — that’s rebuild territory.

Why rebuild the whole cushion instead?

Because the foam is usually the real problem. A dished 6-inch Classic seat rebuilt with a fresh 45-65D core feels like new furniture; the same block re-covered still feels like the old one. Rebuilds here also open the fabric list — 119 choices instead of the maker’s line.

What sizes do This End Up cushions come in?

The two families: Classic blocks at 24 × 29 × 6 inches (seat) and 24 × 15 (back), and Woods End seats at 25 × 29 × 7. Benches run 37 × 14 × 2 and 55 × 14 × 2, dining seats 20 × 17.5 × 2.25. The full official table is charted above.

How much does a custom rebuild cost?

Estimated tiers start around $200 (chair-set class, charted on the brand page) at every fabric one price, with foam density 45-65D your call. Official cushions publish from $77 to $122 per piece for comparison. Nothing is cut before the final quote is confirmed.

How long does a rebuild take?

Every set is cut and sewn after you order — 4-7 business days to craft, 3-6 weeks delivery to your door. Rush service (3-5 business days) covers most of the fabric list.

What you get ordering from us

  • Factory-direct. Orders land at the outdoor cushion factory itself — the cutting, filling, and sewing on your set is all done here. Nothing is brokered or dropshipped.
  • Foam density 35–65D. Every seat is filled firm — high-resilience cores that hold the edge, softer than the flattened pads they replace and cut for outdoor seasons.
  • Order-made, no minimums. Any piece, any fabric — a single cushion or a whole set.
  • ± ½ inch, guaranteed in writing. We verify your figures against the chart before the cut — pieces outside tolerance get remade at no cost.

This End Up rebuilds estimated from $200 — four steps to a quote.
