Description
Flipping a Hampton Bay patio chair to locate the white model label under the seat frame

The tag under your Cedarvale seat has probably faded to blank vinyl by now — most of them have. That label is exactly why this page exists: without it, the path to new pads runs through your own tape measure, and that path works fine.

A set that outlived its paperwork

Cedarvale furniture tends to arrive in this workshop’s inbox with a story attached. Somebody’s parents bought a boxed conversation set for a deck in 2017, enjoyed it for six or seven summers, downsized, and passed the furniture down. The frames still hold. The original pads — sun-bleached, flattened, zippers seized — do not. Somewhere between two households, the assembly manual and the receipt vanished.

That inheritance pattern is the norm for this line, not the exception. Cedarvale moved through Home Depot as a seasonal boxed-set series, and once a season’s inventory cleared, the maker’s cushion spec never became a public document. Which sounds like a dead end. It isn’t. A replacement pad only needs three numbers to exist: width, depth, and thickness. The frame in front of you supplies all three.

So this page does what we’d do if you walked into the workshop with photos: walk the identification down first — because “Is this really a Cedarvale?” changes nothing about the fix, but people like knowing what they own — then get the tape measure out and order with numbers instead of guesswork, in any of 119 fabrics, sewn by the same workshop that ships them.

Nailing down the name on the frame

The white tag is worth one last look before you declare it gone. On most Hampton Bay pieces it lives under the seat frame or tucked inside an arm rail, and model numbers ride behind a supplier code — GLD and THD are the two you’ll see most. Even a partial number, photographed and enlarged on a phone, often resolves the series. If two letters survive the weather, you still have an identifier.

When the tag truly is blank, the paper trail takes over. Home Depot accounts keep order history searchable for years, and “Cedarvale” in the search box of your account is faster than any inspection. The original assembly manual works the same way — boxed sets shipped with a leaflet that names the series on the cover. Receipts from a store register are the weakest link; account orders are the strongest.

Two cautions from experience. First, “Cedarvale” is also a place name and a building name in several states — a web search will hand you maps and apartment listings before it hands you furniture facts, so trust your own paperwork over a search engine. Second, Hampton Bay refreshed series across model years under the same name, and cushion lofts shifted between refreshes. A 2016 Cedarvale and a 2019 Cedarvale can want different pads. That’s not trivia — it’s the reason a chart, even if one existed, would still steer some owners wrong.

Still stuck between two candidate lines? Send photos of the frame — arm profile, weave pattern, leg style — and we’ll tell you which name fits before you measure anything.

What “no size chart” actually costs you

Nothing, provided you can read a tape measure. Here is the honest ledger for uncharted lines like Cedarvale:

  1. You spend eight extra minutes. Three per cushion, roughly: width at the widest seating point, front-to-back depth, thickness at the seam. Written down per piece, because in a five-piece set, seat pads and back pads are separate jobs with separate numbers.
  2. You gain certainty a chart can’t give. A published chart describes the pad that shipped in one model year. Your own figures describe the pad that fits your frame today — including any drift between production runs of the same series.
  3. You skip the return cycle. The most expensive route in replacement cushions is order-by-eyeball, discover-the-gap, return, reorder. Measured orders arrive once.

The full walk-through, with diagrams for the awkward spots, lives in our measurement guides. Most Cedarvale owners need the basic three-number version.

An honest label: identification cues here come from retail listings and owner reports over the years — Hampton Bay never published a Cedarvale data sheet. Your white tag or Home Depot order record outranks anything we or anyone else can tell you about the line.
Independent workshop: CushionMill is not affiliated with Hampton Bay or Home Depot. We use the series name to identify the frame you own — every cushion is cut to your measurements, not sold as an official Hampton Bay part.

From three numbers to a quote

Ordering runs through the configurator: enter the figures per cushion, pick a fabric, and the quote builds itself. Custom work starts from a $45 make-base and scales with cushion size and foam density across the 35D–65D range — firmer foams for daily-use seats, softer lofts for occasional pieces. Every fabric in the menu carries the same price, so a bold stripe and a budget solid cost you identically at any given size. Nothing gets cut until your numbers are confirmed back to you.

Three fabrics cover most Cedarvale orders: cotton linen for covered porches, water-resistant tech fabric for open decks, and premium velvet where claws and couch-surfing teenagers are involved. All covers zip off for washing — a pad that can’t be cleaned is a pad you’ll replace twice as often.

There’s a quiet dividend in rebuilding rather than replacing a hand-me-down set: the frames carry memory that catalog furniture never earns — the chair your father claimed, the corner seat that always went to the youngest grandchild. Workshop rebuilds keep that furniture in service on its own terms, with pads that fit the actual frames instead of whatever generic dimensions a replacement market decides to stock. Quite a few of our orders ship as gifts, too: an adult child rebuilding the parents’ set as a housewarming gesture, measured during a holiday visit and ordered the following week.

Ordering as a set, ordering in pieces

Both work. A full Cedarvale refresh — seats and backs for the whole conversation set — batches into one configurator session, and the quote lands before anything moves to the cutting table. Replacing a single destroyed chair pad while the rest survive works the same way: three numbers, one cushion, no minimum order and no surcharge for small jobs. Mixed sets from estate hand-me-downs are welcome too; we’ve sewn for plenty of three-quarters-complete collections waiting on a matching final piece.

Adjacent uncharted Hampton Bay lines — Salem and Geneva — follow this same measured route. If your set turns out to be a Kampar, that series has a charted page of its own. Every series we track is indexed on the Hampton Bay hub.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get Cedarvale cushions straight from the manufacturer anymore?

No. The series ran as Home Depot seasonal stock, and original pads left the supply chain when those seasons ended. A workshop rebuild from your own measurements is the production route now — 119 fabrics, cut after you order.

The tag is unreadable — do I even need the series name to order?

Strictly, no. The order needs width, depth, and thickness, not a name. The series identification mainly protects you from buying the wrong thing twice — and photos sent to the workshop usually settle it inside a day.

What foam firmness should a hand-me-down conversation set get?

For seating that hosts guests most weekends, the 55D–60D band holds its shape for years. Occasional-use pieces sit happily at 45D–50D with a plusher feel. Density is a dial on the quote, and every step of it is priced openly before checkout.

Are the covers removable?

Every cover closes with a working zipper and comes off fully for a wash — that’s standard on everything we sew, not an upgrade tier. Unzip, machine-wash gentle, air-dry, back on the foam.

What does a full five-piece set typically run?

Each cushion starts from the $45 make-base and climbs with size and density — a realistic full-set budget emerges in the configurator line by line before you commit. Quotes are confirmed while the order is still just numbers on a screen.

How long from confirmed order to my doorstep?

Sewing takes 4–7 business days on the standard schedule, 3–5 if you flag it as a rush. Freight to most US addresses adds 3–6 weeks door to door — worth planning around if the set is needed for a specific date.

What ordering from this workshop gets you

  • Ten-plus years of cutting, filling, and sewing cushions in-house — the people who quote your order are the people who build it.
  • Measurement re-verification before any fabric is unrolled: your three numbers, checked against your piece count, discrepancies queried rather than guessed.
  • No stock, no lot sizes — one pad or a full estate’s worth, any of 119 fabrics, same flat fabric pricing.
  • Rebuild guarantee: outside ±½″ on our cut (±¾″ beyond 36″), wrong fabric, or wrong build — remade at our cost, not argued about.
