Frequently Asked Questions

Twelve questions that cover almost everything about ordering cushions from us. Each answer leads with the bottom line.

1. How does the custom cushion process work?
Three steps: measure, order, receive. You measure your old cushion (or seat deck) following our three-step guide, submit the numbers with your fabric and thickness choices, and we cut, fill and sew to those dimensions. We re-verify every dimension before cutting; if anything looks off we contact you before starting.
2. How long does an order take?
7–14 business days to make, plus shipping — typical US custom shops quote 3–6 weeks, so we’re roughly half the wait. Every cushion is made to order — nothing sits in a warehouse. Straightforward rectangles run toward the fast end; hinged chaises, notched pieces and large sectionals take the full window. You’ll get a tracking number the day your order ships.
3. How much is shipping?
A flat rate per order, with tracking. We ship every order at a single flat rate regardless of piece count — the rate is finalized at launch and shown at checkout. See Shipping & Returns for the current figure and delivery windows.
4. Can I return a cushion?
Custom cushions cannot be returned — they’re cut for one chair: yours. Because every piece is made to your measurements, a returned cushion fits no one else and cannot be restocked. That is exactly why we put our accuracy promise in writing: cut to within ½ inch of your confirmed dimensions (¾ inch on longer runs), free remake outside tolerance. If we made an error — wrong dimensions, wrong fabric, wrong finish — we remake it at our cost, no questions. Orders can be cancelled free within 24 hours of placement.
5. Which fabric should I choose?
Match fabric to sun exposure. Full-sun patios: solution-dyed acrylic (Sunbrella-class) with a 5-year fade warranty. Covered patios and high-traffic indoor seats: performance woven fabric, fade- and moisture-resistant at a lower price. Sheltered indoor pieces: everyday polyester does the job. We’ll tell you honestly if your choice doesn’t match your conditions.
6. How do I know my measurements are right before you cut?
We confirm them twice. First, if your furniture is one of our 43 measured series, we compare your numbers against the database. Second, a human reviews every order for plausibility — a 90-inch dining chair seat gets a phone call, not a cut ticket. Follow the measuring guide and send a photo if you’re unsure.
7. Can you match cushions for a series you don’t list?
Yes — that’s the whole point of custom. Our database covers 24 Hampton Bay and 7 Martha Stewart collections, but any furniture with a measurable seat can get a replacement. Send photos plus W × D × T measurements and we’ll quote it as a custom cut through the shape customizer workflow.
8. What foam do you use?
High-density foam, 35–65D, in every cushion. Density is what keeps a cushion recovering season after season. Our standard fill is the 35–65D tier brands upcharge for; firmer or plusher builds are available on request for daily-use pieces like banquettes and family-room sofas. One honest expectation: new high-density foam usually feels firmer than the cushion it replaces — the old one flattened, which is why you’re replacing it. Fresh foam softens a little over the first weeks and then holds that level for years; that break-in is the difference between firm and flat.
9. Can I order covers only, without new foam?
Yes, covers-only is available if your foam is still sound. Measure the existing foam core flat and uncompressed and we’ll sew a cover to it, with welt cord or ties as you specify. If your foam stays compressed after you press it, replace the foam too — a new cover over dead foam is a new cover over dead foam.
10. Do you offer rush production?
Yes, rush moves you to the front of the cutting queue for a surcharge. Rush orders are produced in 4–7 business days including priority handling. Availability depends on the workshop calendar — ask before ordering if your date is fixed.
11. How accurate will my cushion be?
Cut to your confirmed dimensions within ½ inch; longer runs within ¾ inch. Custom sewing is hand work, so we publish tolerances instead of promising perfection: width and depth within ± ½ in. (pieces over 36 inches: ± ¾ in.), thickness within ± ½ in. If a finished piece falls outside those tolerances against your confirmed numbers, we remake it free — shipping included. Full table on the Shipping & Returns page.
12. What warranty do my cushions carry?
Four tiers, each owned where it belongs. Workmanship — seams, sewing, ties, fill — is covered for 3 years residential (1 year commercial); the foam core carries a 2-year collapse warranty by density tier. Fabric fade performance follows your chosen tier: solution-dyed acrylic holds color for years in full sun (the 5-year fade class), while indoor weaves are rated for covered use. We’ll steer you to the honest tier for your sun exposure before you order — including telling you when the cheaper fabric is enough.

Ordering & service

How do I order free fabric swatches?

Ask us for swatches of any fabric shown on this page — we mail cut samples so you can check color and texture in your own light before ordering.

What if the cushion doesn’t fit when it arrives?

Every cushion is cut to the measurements you submit. If we misread or miscut your numbers, we remake it at no charge.

Can I talk through my project before ordering?

Yes — send us a photo of your seat and your rough measurements, and the workshop team will confirm the best approach before you pay.

How are these different from store-bought pads?

Store pads come in standard sizes and thin foam. Ours are cut to your exact dimensions with your choice of foam thickness and fabric — made in the same workshop that ships them.
