Custom Daybed Cushions, Made to Your Measurements

Factory-direct, cut to your measurements — indoor daybeds, patio daybeds, cabana sections.

A daybed is a sofa by day and a bed by night, and its cushion inherits both sets of problems: it must look tailored like upholstery and survive mattress duty — full body weight, hours at a stretch, every guest weekend. Most daybed cushion failures come from treating the second problem like the first: a bench-grade spec dishes within a year of sleeping duty.

"Daybed" is not a standardized furniture word, and no aisle stocks a 36 × 75 anything. We cut daybed cushions to your frame’s deck dimensions in 45–60D foam — one piece with a planned seam, two halves, or modular cabana sections — with the bolsters and back pieces re-cut in the same fabric run.

Fabric tierEstimated price*
Cotton Linen$392
Tech Fabric$415
Premium Velvet$437

*One twin-scale daybed top (39 × 75 × 5 in.): $39 make-base + 20.3 sq ft × rate ($17.38/$18.49/$19.62 per sq ft, 5" 50D foam + fabric). Narrower 36-inch frames cost less; full-scale 54 × 75 outdoor daybeds run higher. Bolsters and backs price on their own area.

For comparison: U.S. custom-configurator specialists’ 2026 listings quote daybed and cabana builds from the high hundreds to roughly $900-plus at the top — and most only reveal that price after a quote request. We publish the formula above so you can check the math before you order.

Popular Daybed Sizes We Cut

Daybed cushion sizes are mattress sizes, with patio frames wandering a little (typical, always measure):

PieceTypical sizeNotes
Indoor daybed (twin)39 × 75, 4–6" thickThe standard; uses twin bedding
Indoor daybed (narrow)36 × 75, 4–6"European and vintage frames
Patio daybed / lounge32–39 × 72–76, 5–8"Weather duty; measure, never assume
Cabana section pieces~30 × 30 to 39 × 75 each, 5–6"Modular; order as a set
Full-scale outdoor daybed52–54 × 75, 6–8"The big one; sectional logic applies

A real measured example: the Martha Stewart Lake Adele day bed in our database is one of the few patio daybeds with published OEM dimensions.

Yours differs? That’s the point — we cut to your numbers.

How to Measure a Daybed Cushion

  • Measure the deck inside the frame rails, width and length at two points each — daybed frames are hand-assembled more often than machined, and out-of-square by a quarter inch is common.
  • Depth is front-to-back: for indoor daybeds it is the sleeping width; for patio lounges check whether the back cushions stack on the deck (subtract their thickness) or hang behind it.
  • Thickness against the frame: side arms and canopy edges set a ceiling — a cushion thicker than the arm makes the daybed look upholstered-shut.
  • Note tie-down points on patio daybeds (rattan weave gaps, frame loops) if wind is a factor; a mattress-scale cushion is also a mattress-scale sail.

Bed-Duty Foam and Fabric

Daybed cushions run thicker than seats (5–7 inches typical) because lying flat over slats needs more foam depth than sitting. Indoors, breathable cotton linen is the right natural weave; a patio daybed is the most exposed cushion in the yard after a boat cushion — horizontal surface, full sun, lying-duty loads — so tech fabric’s wipe-clean waterproofing earns its place there. One physical fact we state upfront: fabric comes off the bolt at 54 inches, so a 75-inch surface gets a planned seam, and a center seam across the width is stronger than two pieces abutting. See the fabric guide for the tier comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Do you make standard daybed cushion sizes?

Standard sizes too — in 3 clicks: indoor daybeds take the twin standard — 39 × 75 at 4–6 inches thick, 36 × 75 on narrower frames — and typing those numbers into the customizer gets you the same instant factory-direct quote. Made to order means made to stock sizes too, and never out of stock.

What size cushion does a daybed take?

Indoor daybeds take twin-scale cushions — 39 × 75 standard, 36 × 75 on narrower frames — at 4–6 inches thick; patio daybeds run 32–39 × 72–76 and vary by maker, so measure the deck inside the rails rather than trusting the size word.

Can I use a twin mattress instead of a daybed cushion?

For an indoor daybed, yes — that is the design intent; expect a mattress look and an imperfect fit if the frame wanders from nominal. Outdoor daybeds cannot use indoor mattresses: the foam and cover are not built for rain and sun.

What foam density does a daybed cushion need?

45–60D for nightly sleeping; 35–44D seating grade survives only occasional guest use before dishing — density is lifespan, doubled at mattress scale.

Should a daybed cushion be one piece or two?

One piece with a planned seam for sleep-primary use (no ridge through the middle of the bed); two halves or modular sections for sit-primary daybeds, which are easier to rotate, wash and store.
