Cushions to Fit IKEA — 12 Measured Series (2026 Index)

Replacement cushions for IKEA sofas, chairs and outdoor sets — official measurements where they exist, factory-custom cutting for everything else.
IKEA is the largest flat-pack furniture maker in the world, and its cushion system works exactly like the rest of flat-pack: a current line sometimes sells cushions as accessories, and a retired line has nothing behind it. People searching IKEA replacement cushions are almost always holding a frame that outlived its catalog support — an EKTORP discontinued in 2024, an APPLARO patio set retired with the season, a POANG whose cushion colors rotated out, or a HAVSTEN set whose $190-per-piece pads disintegrated long before the wicker did. The outdoor side runs on the same clock, faster: IKEA outdoor cushions searches spike every spring for frames like TARNO and NAMMARO, whose pads IKEA sells only while the colorway runs — then the frame keeps serving and the pad program moves on.
This page is our working index for that situation. It runs on the same engine as our Hampton Bay and Martha Stewart indexes: measured databases for 12 IKEA series, built from official IKEA product measurements, plus custom-cut ordering for every series not in the database yet.

The outdoor pad system (KUDDARNA & friends)
IKEA’s current outdoor line sells pads separately, and the pads are the data: KUDDARNA chair pads come in exactly 19 5/8 × 19 5/8, 17 3/8 × 17 3/8 and 14 1/8 × 12 5/8 — plus a 24 3/8 × 24 3/8 seat pad, 47 1/4 × 15 3/4 bench pad and a 74 3/4 × 23 5/8 sun lounger cushion. The TARNO and NAMMARO pages in this index map those pads to their frames. When a colorway retires and the pad program moves on, the frame keeps serving — and we cut to the same numbers.
Retired lines — made to your measurements
No trustworthy piece-level dimensions survive anywhere public for these lines (official pages went dark with retirement). Rather than publish guesses, we list them for identification — every one is orderable as a custom cut: measure the old cushion or frame, send us the numbers, we sew to them.
- APPLARO (outdoor, retired)
- SALTHOLMEN (outdoor, retired)
- LANDSKRONA fabric version
- VALLENTUNA
- KLINTEN
- VIMLE / SOLSTA (US-delisted)
- GRONLID (armchair two generations — 2019 vs 2023 differ by 8" in width; cover-maker tables survive for this one, measure before ordering anyway)
How to identify your IKEA series
(1) Find the 8-digit article number — on the paper label once stapled under the frame, on your ikea.com order history, or on the assembly manual. The article number resolves the exact piece and year range, which matters because long-running lines get mid-cycle revisions. (2) The series name (KIVIK, POANG …) is global and stable — but match it against the charts before ordering. (3) Compare your measurements with our charts — within half an inch is a match. Full method: our three-step measuring guide.
Build your IKEA replacement cushions
Start with the shape your piece actually is: rectangle for sofa seat blocks and outdoor seat pads, T-cushion for seats that extend under the arms, L-shape for sectional corner runs. Enter each block’s width, depth and thickness, pick the fabric tier, and order the whole set in one run.
IKEA outdoor set? Switch the customizer to outdoor fabrics → — solution-dyed acrylics over 50D-plus foam, cut to the pad numbers in the TARNO / NAMMARO charts. All 11 shapes: start from scratch.
Indoor IKEA vs outdoor IKEA — different specs
| Indoor sofas & chairs | Outdoor sets (TARNO / NAMMARO / HAVSTEN) | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical failure | Foam compression — dished seats, limp fiber backs | Fabric fade and waterlogging before foam death |
| Universal-market fit | Poor — metric fractions, shaped pads, one-piece runs | Fair only where pads are plain squares (19 5/8 grid) |
| Replacement spec | 45–60D foam cores; thickness set to restore seat height | Solution-dyed acrylic covers; 50D-plus foam |
Identify which half of the catalog your piece is from before ordering — the fill and fabric specs are different jobs. The comparison behind those choices: custom sofa cushions (indoor) and custom outdoor cushions (patio).
Frequently asked questions
Does IKEA sell replacement cushions?
Partly. A few lines sell cushions as separate accessories while the pattern is current — POANG chair cushions are the famous case, ANTILOP runs a $9.99 inflatable supporting cushion, and the outdoor line runs a seasonal pad program (HAVSTEN’s official seat/back pads run $190 per piece). But IKEA runs no parts program for retired patterns: when a line is discontinued (EKTORP indoors, APPLARO and SALTHOLMEN outdoors), the cushions disappear with it, and replacement moves to the secondhand market or a workshop that cuts to measurements.
Do IKEA cushion sizes match standard US cushion sizes?
Rarely. IKEA seat depths run 18 7/8 to 24 inches with metric-derived fractions (22 7/8, 23 5/8) that do not line up with inch-based standard sizes. A 24 × 24 universal pad on a KIVIK seat (23 5/8 deep) overhangs the front edge; a 19 × 19 dining cushion on a SODERHAMN seat (18 7/8 deep) bunches. Cut to the fraction, not the rounded inch.
How do I know which IKEA series I own?
Three places, in order of strength: the 8-digit article number on the paper label under the frame (it resolves the exact piece and year range — critical for two-generation lines), your ikea.com order history, and the assembly manual. Series names are global and stable across years, but revisions happen mid-run, so the article number beats the name.
Can you make cushions for discontinued IKEA furniture like EKTORP or APPLARO?
Yes. EKTORP’s full 12-piece geometry survives via cover-maker spec tables (see the EKTORP chart); for retired lines with no surviving spec (APPLARO, SALTHOLMEN, fabric LANDSKRONA), the route is measuring the furniture itself — seam to seam, every distinct block — and we cut to your numbers.
What thickness foam do I need for an IKEA sofa seat?
IKEA publishes seat height, not cushion thickness. Use the published seat height as your target and choose foam thickness to restore it. Practical references: POANG chair cushions are officially 2 inches, aftermarket EKTORP seats run about 4 inches of loft, and aftermarket KIVIK-cut foam runs 3 inches — the numbers in each series chart are the starting point.
Are EKTORP and UPPLAND cushions interchangeable?
No. UPPLAND inherited EKTORP’s design language and its 22 7/8-inch seat depth, but the frames and covers are their own. Check the piece against both charts in this index before ordering anything EKTORP-branded for a UPPLAND frame or vice versa.
Do you make outdoor cushions for IKEA patio furniture?
Yes. Outdoor IKEA series like TARNO, NAMMARO and HAVSTEN are in this index with measured pad charts, and retired outdoor lines (APPLARO, SALTHOLMEN) are orderable as custom cuts. Outdoor builds get solution-dyed acrylic covers over 50D-plus foam — a different spec from indoor IKEA cushions, and the indoor-vs-outdoor table above splits the two.
